You are probably using beta drivers 75.xx. Download the official drivers from nvidia, that should sort u out.
I am having the same problem and I'm not using beta drivers. I am using a 50" Samsung HDTV that causes issues sometimes because it is widescreen. I have tried running the game at 1024, 800, and the HDTV's native 1280 x 720. The only game cfg file I could find with resolution info was main.cfg. It was listed as 1024 x 800. I changed that to 1024 x 768, 800 x 600, and the native 1280 x 720. Would still get the "Cannot Load 3D Engine".
I have installed and played 50+ games on this computor and have encountered only one other game that gave me a problem like this. It was the RPG Sacred, and I have never been able to get it to work. I did everything they said to do in the forum's and would download each new patch. I have been waiting for this game since SH2 came out and am totally bumbed.
I too have a 50 samsung....neither this nor Nexus work for me....mysteriously, could it really be the monitor that is the problem?
I had this same problem, i went from the 75.xx betas back to the nvidia release'd ones from their website (71.xx i think?) .. Problem went away.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to say about your widescreen.. do you have another monitor you could swap in and check?
It`s about the refresh rate on CRT`s. I went in the drivers option and force 120Hz. It seems that the game only runs at the same refresh as the desktop. My desktop is fixed at 100Hz but using that would have gave me not a full screen, a.i. black borders, image could not be streched to fill up the screen. It is not about driver version!
Fixed now, game runs fine!
OK. Got the fix for everyone. Turns out I was runnung 1600 X 1200 desktop resolution and turned it down to 1200 X 1024 and that solved the problem. Everything working fine now. Got this fix from tech. support.
