Thread: First Review of Lockdown (XBox) from UK Site - Score: 78% | Forums

I put this in the PC section because the review covers the SP portion of the game and the apparent step backwards the AI has taken which is ironic considering it was actually better in the console versions of R63 and BA (Black Arrow) compared to Raven Shield:

For the record, I am not one of those immature people who think they are intellectually superior to others just because they play games on a PC vs. a console. In fact, I have an XBox and a powerful gaming PC and play the various versions of titles like Rainbow Six on each platform and evaluate them objectively for what they are.

    However...

The point here is if the console version isn't that good (all around) what can the PC players expect???

Granted, this is one review, but couple that from reports from those who played the multiplayer demo on Xbox Live! and what we know of it being a class-based, Counter-Strike-like game and the game itself appears to not be that good, regardless.

I hope things bode better for the PC version for both SP and MP and will be more like the original, non-linear, tactical R6 games because if the PC version is close to the console versions then most of the R6 PC community will either move on (finally), or just keep playing what is left be it the old, out-dated R6 games, or RavenShield and its expansions...

That is if UBI and Redstorm don't cancel the PC version of Lockdown within the next six months either. Hmm...

    Thoughts?

The reviewer is stating what I saw and tried at Leipzig (XBox SP demo) along with some of what I am reading here on these forums. The gameplay was a mess and seemed to be more like CS than R6. Going to a 4 man squad changed how R6 was and will be played. As it stands right now, I do not look to be getting Lockdown for the PC as it will be a PS2 port (after the GR2 fiasco with the PS2 version), I do not think it will be popular (if any RSE devs are reading this, take note now and start to work on something using the RSE propriety engine and built from the ground up and not make a console port that does not include any arcade game type features like FPWV).

They saind in a video interview that it will be an enhanced version of the PS2 or something like that. Which meas it will be a port.

when does a port become a port? The fact that they use the same code base? I see ports as simply moving the whole thing over to the new platform without anything done to the code.

I will wait and see, but the fact that they are using a code base that is already created doesn't mean it will be the exactly the same. It just means that they aren't wasting time redoing things from the ground up that will be the same.

I'm not sure how LD will turn out and am staying neutral towards it. People say it will be run and gun, but it's how you play the game. If the team AI is better than RvS (which was horrible) I think it will be more realistic for the simple reason you can actually clear a room.

Actually, Official Xbox Magazine UK gave it 9 out of 10 and didnt seem to share many of these points...

You do know that the PS2 version uses Redstorms own engine, right?

Yes, I know that Lockdown for PC will use the RSE engine, but they will be porting the stuff over from PS2. Listen to Deke Waters state that in the developer interview at 1Up.com that Kimi has posted at about 20 seconds in. He states teh the PC version will be a port from the PS2 version.

They need to build Lockdown for PC from scratch and not port anything. It needs to be built for code strictly desgined for the PC and not share something that will be used on the inferior console platform.

Actually, it doesnt matter if the engine is used on consoles. It can still be used on a PC. The engine itself is not what causes the problems, but how you put it to use.

Actually, he says it will be based on the console version as a start. That does not mean its a port. He also points out that they want to cater to the old Rainbow PC crowd.

A port is when you take a game and just transfer it to another format with minimal changes. Thats not the case here, obviously.

At least it is meant not to be a direct port. But that says nothing, it still can suck. Hope not.
