Thread: Need help creating a campaign | Forums

  1. #1
Okay, I've made a number of missions now (thanks to a lot of help from you gentlemen here ) and I'd like to create a campaign (linear). I have a basic understanding of the whole concept but can someone steer me in the right direction or show me a tutorial? I'm not clear what folders and files need to be created and where they should be placed.

Thanx DD_NL, but as far as I can tell, that guide only pertains to mission building, not campaigns...

This came up the other day...can't find the thread, though.

I'm a bit pressed for time here, but I'll say what I always say about this:

The instructions for campaign making in the manual are simply wrong The problem lies in typos and omitted info, not how well you are following directions

    Once again Chuck...you are right.

The manual has so little info it's more like an excerpt rather than the complete directions.

Your best bet is to download a known, fully functioning campaign

I suggest one made by bird_brain or Extreme_One, they have links in the signatures

D/l the campaign, and open it up. It's most likely self-extracting, so no worries...open your Program files folder, open Ubi soft, open FB, and go to missions

Once you open that, open the campaign folder

If you d/l one of their campaigns, you'll see the campaign available in that country's folder. Let's say you d/l E_O's Battle Over Britain. Just open up the "GB" folder (GReat Britain), and you'll see the campaign folder, "BoverB"

Open it, and look at it's contents

take a look at the 'camapign' file, and also a file called 'info', which is near the end of all the files

You'll see where the manual went wrong, most likely. If not, if you shoot E_O or bird_brain a PM, they can explain. One of them will probably respond to this thread

If not, I can take you through it, but I can't really do it right now

Chuck_Older is quite right. I will give you my 2 cents worth.
    * Download someone else's short campaign like "The Blue" @ the link below.
    * Install it to your FB folder & open the files in windows explorer.
    * Browse down (in this case it would be under GB)to Missions/Campaigns/GB/Blue.
    * Open the mission folder and then open the campaign.ini and info.properties files in notepad.
    * Look and see how they are setup and then start the campaign in game. You will see how each part of the briefings corresponds to the same part of the files you have under missions/...
    * When your missions are done, change the mission names in the campaign.ini file to match yours, put your missions in the file, and type your own info.properties file to give the Campaign name, short briefing and the full briefing.
    * Once you get that far, if you can't get it to run post some more details and we will help get you rolling. Basically you just write over an existing campaign with your files and text and you are good to go.

Catandra I'm really sorry but I accidentally editted your post instead of quoted and replied. By the time I'd noticed my mistake it was too late.

I hope you can see this was a genuine mistake and in fact my reply is posted below.

Oh boy - the mods are gonna love this if they see it!

Lord knows why they gave me admin privileges!?!

Mate you're making this unecessarily hard on yourself.

1st make missions and put in your campaign folder. Lets's say your missions are for called them 01.mis, 02.mis, 03.mis, 04.mis etc...etc....

2nd make an info.properties file like the ones you've seen in downloaded campaigns and place this in your campaign folder. This contains the descriptions the user sees before loading a new campaign.

3rd copy a campaign.ini file from another's campaign into your campaign folder but instead of a list of their missions use a list of your own (01.mis 02.mis 03.mis) etc...

I can't be more specific at the moment because I'm at work but surely that'll help you?

If not I'll be back online later when I get home....
