1.) You stated that you're trying to RE-install. That being the case, did you first delete the files and folders from BOTH the Ubisoft/SH3 program files as well as all the files & folders from your Documents & Settings/SH3 folders. If you don't delete all previous pointers to SH3 prior to reinstallation, the files won't be overwritten, merely ignored and passed over. That being the case, if you have some sort of glitch, it will remain as long as the former files do.
2.) What Fong x 3 is alluding to is the fact that there are FOUR different versions of the 1.4b patch. Two are for the Downloaded version of the simulation...one being for the EMEA (European) version and the other for the American version. The other two patches are also for the European and American versions, but for the simulation on DVD that came in a retail box with manual, map, etc. If you have the European simulation, and try to patch with the American 1.4, you'll get an unknown version message.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
Same exact problem here. I had to uninstall/reinstall the game today because I did not care for a particular mod which to uninstall requires the entire game to be uninstalled.
I removed the SH3 folder from My Documents, and rebooted. Reinstalled the game, downloaded the correct patch (for me it is US DVD) from UBI.com and I receive this error:
"The program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III US DVD v1.0 to v1.3 because of the following reason:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\en_help.tx t: unknown version."
Uninstalled and reinstalled three times this morning and the UBI patch does not work. The 1.0 installed game plays fine, but I cannot patch it.
I've downloaded the correct patch from two different places and it does not patch the game.
Funny thing is, I am not asked for my key code at any point during the installation, similar to what Tiberius is experienceing here Post
Edit: Figured it out - noob mistake. The mod that I used left files remaining in the root game directory. When I uninstalled I just checked to make sure it was out of my programs menu...I didn't go one step further and check the c: drive.
