Righty O. It's out and there are some who've never used a map editor before. I am one of those people. I've done a whole hell of reading and examining and experimenting. I guess my problem is understanding the uses and how to put them in, of portals, anti-portals, and zones. I also dont know how to actually make a cut in a wall or ground or roof to make a door.
Any help would be greatly appreacited.

Well i guess im your new buddy cause i understand the unreal engine from the bottom up

Ok lets start with portals and antiportals, portals basicaly break the map down into different "zones" for rendering purposes. When a zone cannot be seen by a player it wont be rendered therefore create a better FPS, basicaly less lag. So if you design your map and build your map so that you cant see into many zones at the same time then your map will generaly run faster.

Antiportals on the other hand will cause the engine to not render anything fully behind them at all, so if a SM is behind and antiportal and you cant see any of it, it will not be rendered, if you can see the tinyiest sliver of the SM then it will render the whole mesh.

Zones are created by breaking up segments of geometry via portals. Zones are good because they can have different enviormental attributes set to them specificaly, so in one zone you could be playing an outside ambience, while in another you could be playing classical music.

    Any other questions

okay... I understand. Looking at the maps that were given it seems that they have a portal seperating almost everyroom. Especially the rooms that were made with BSP and not static meshes. NOw i just need to know how to make a portal.
I just figured out how to make a door work. still trying to findout how to activate the triggers and well get a whole in a roof. Hmmm Deftech has some ill go there.
Well I think 6 hours of this stuff is long enough... im gonna go do something else before my brain explodes.

Remember portals only work when they seperate BSP, SM's wont block vision, meaning the portal has to connect to bsp verticies and not SM verticies otherwise it wont zone, and there is a mode in the 3d viewport that will allow you to see all the different zones in different colors, if you see a constant blue color then your portals are leaking and you need to double check that your zones are sealed.

While doing some playing I noticed every now and again that things actualy dont line up. For instance I made a door way, and inserted a static mesh door frame. The problem is that the I cant get the door frame to center itself with the hole i made. They are the proper size but because of the locking its off by a little bit.
Any ideas on what the deal is? Other than that things are going smoothly. Got a door to work i was happy. Oh and sucessfully created a zone with a portal.

Also, I looked tried looking for this and searched it but with no luck. I am unable to use that "play map" button. It tries to start up SCPT but it never loads. I can test it though by just opening up the game and visit the map. Which brings me to my other question. How do you add the title and picture of the map to the map selection? If possible.
