i have just tried the DUEL MODE and its PRE-SETS, the thing i found not working well was simply their replaybility. Even though they offered to have more pre-sets in the future, but dont you find those pre-sets impersonal and lack of character and creativity?
i have actually posted the below at pop_pip's post, so i'll just copy it here ( hah im kinda new to the forum dont know how to quote)
"how about all new players have a fixed hero, and he/she start at low levels (lvl 1 most likely) and then when you play DUEL MODE, you gain exp, and lvl up and gain skill points. With these skill points you can either "buy" stats, or magic, or units, or artifacts.
depending on your lvl, the higher the lvl, the more powerful the upgrades you can get.
With this, it adds some online rpg character building, and i think it would make the players to be more interactive with their own heroes.
(sounds kind of like diablo II or aoeIII eh?)
but a player-matching system would be required to allow similar lvl heroes to play with eachother."
adding to that, the skill points can also get you skills and abilities of course haha.
also, your hero should start with only a few kind of creatures (lvl 1 to 4), and maybe just one or two fully upgraded. I dont know about everyone else, but for me, i found battles at the beginning of every heroesIII/IV game have the most strategic and awarding feeling to me. These fights count on just a little bit of change in your position, spell usage, or upgraded your unit.
my experinence with the presets now is that they dont give you such feelings, you get tons of units, and have a already 'built, buffed' hero. And you hardly value your creatures, "10 hydra just got killed... meh".
I think being able to start small and continuely to build up with rpg sense would give the game new life.
"it'll be like playing a real game except you are only doing all the battles"
what do you guys think?
