Springfield makes a G.I. 1911-A1 45 which comes in either parkerized or OD green.

Could someone tell me the origin of the OD green. I am planning on selling my H&K USP 40 compact so I can get a ww2 looking pistol ( a 1911 45) and I like the color...it makes me think WWII but was that a color used in WWII..as in issued?

Yea, OD green 1911's are a new deal with springfield to try and pawn off guns as new.

Almost in WWII was pakerized. MGs may have been painted for camofauge, but not by the factory to my knowledge. I know alot of M1919's were green or Greenish, and a lot of M2's were black or darker gray.

Most german small arms were pakerized, most mg's were black or blackish.

    Obviously, wood wasn't painted.

And nothign was silver or bright steel, that was just dumb.

Moose is right. Usually the 1911 was parkerized. Some had a Parco-Lubrite finish and that's why some are a bit green because the Lubrite finish has a manganese base instead of zinc in the Parkerizing finish. However, both methods were created by the same company

Moose..you mean trying to pawn off the OD as OLD..WWII.

Anyway...It looks like I am going to making an even trade for one. I do like my H&K but the GI 45 would mean more to me...of course not as much as a real WWII issue .45.

    Hopefully by end of week...

I see myself owning one of these .45s as well. If you're looking for other reproduction WWII militaria, then you should check out www.atthefront.com

I broke down and bought myself a Parson's Jacket a few weeks ago. Really cool stuff they make... and with the highest quality.

You can buy a pakerize Colt 1911A1 from springfield armory brand-new today. I understand it's not vintage WWII, but honeslty its made exactly the same as it was back then.

I know it's not a Colt but Auto-Ordnace makes a great WWII reproduction.

It's about $581. Since AO has been bought by Kahr the quality of the gun has gone up tremendously.
A true Colt will most likely cost around $1000 or so. So if you don't have that much money to throw around the AO 1911 is a great accurate, reliable, and nice looking gun.
