Another debugging hint: I tested on another PS3 (the last of the fat models, 80 GB, 2 USB ports) and copied my savegame and reloaded my DLC. (Note to anyone else trying this: If you don't load your DLC, and your current setlist has DLC in it, it will pick 4 random songs instead. On the plus side, if you exit the game before doing anything that would make it do a save, download them form PSN (you can't re-download them in-game), and restart, your old setlist will return.) On that model, rehearsals and riff repeaters at level 8 was fine. When I tried a song (Gone Away from the Offspring pack) in performance mode in the biggest venue I had unlocked (I show 2 locked ones after it), I could see the video freeze momentarily a few times, which is where my regular PS3 (the original 60 GB model, 4 USB ports) would hang, but this PS3 got through them. However, when the song ended, the fretboard was gone, and it was just cheering crowds, as the score was fading away to end, it froze. (I have gone through full setlists on that PS3 before, in the previous venue, where the old PS3 would choke 2-4 songs in).

NO MORE EVENTS FOR ME

The newer fat PS3 (80 GB) worked today, I finally had my fill and voluntarily exited the game! (after a few hours and my fingertips were tingling). (There's a screwy middle part in this story, but I'm including it in case it means anything.) I played Gone Away in rehearsal, which then left me with nothing to do except the 8-song event, I quit the game (to save the savegame to USB, since I hadn't played some of these songs in months and this would allow me to start over if I get too low a score), restarted, then as it was reloading, I noticed I never rotated the PS logo from horizontal to vertical when I put the new PS3 on the table, and then realized that it's very close to the BD eject button. It was still going through the startup screens, I think between the company names and the intro song, when I accidentally hit eject; it stayed at a black screen. I reinserted the BD-ROM, the PS3 read it and exited to XMB. I re-restarted the game, went through the entire 8-song setlist (I really should have practiced all 8 songs, I forgot how some went after a few months), and no issues! (besides the occasional stuttering of video on Gone Away that usually shows a lockup is about to occur in 1/2 second, but it kept going on this unit.) I ended up with an encore, which allowed me to look at the crowd...okay, a happy crowd full of women in the front row in tank tops jumping/jiggling up and down might be worth the chance of a crash...and ended safely.
(Mind you, this isn't a solution, just an observation - I have to return the PS3, so my old one still needs a fix, and apparently many other PS3s have the same issue. However, below lists a possible solution):
Between songs, I noticed that the hard drive LED never lit, but with the PS3 on the tabletop and me standing right by it, I heard noises I never noticed before on the PS3 - the BD drive head loading. Yesterday, I noticed that the game data on the PS3 is only 2 files, 22 -44 MB each. That gave me an idea for a bugfix - what if you loaded the most-used data to the game data (for instance, Batman takes about 5 minutes the first time you play, as it creates a 3 GB file on the drive - or do like Xbox, and make an option to load the entire game onto the hard drive? (You can still check to make sure the BD-ROM is inserted), but then the BD-ROM won't slow you down.
Question for Xbox users: If you load the game data to the HD, does it take 20 or so seconds every time you exit or enter a song, or does it make it faster?

I hadn't played any events since I reached 11 a couple of months ago. Today I decided to try one with the default songs it was giving me, you know, just to challenge myself. Of course it froze on the second to last song. This is on PS3. So I guess it's back to playing single songs for me.

Evanescence - first song in 6-song set. 99,705. Froze on completion.
Black Widwo, when I write to support I get nothing but machine (non-)responses. What do you suggest?

Since the patch I haven't had a freeze issue during an event until today. 8 song event - froze after the 4th song (Space ostrich). Video froze, but I could still hear the crowd. (PS3 slim model). The only other freezing that I've encountered since the patch is when playing a song in master mode. Sometimes it just stays on the screen that says "get ready to play master mode". Doesn't happen very often though.

I've had the game for PS3 since release and haven't run unto any of the freezing or DLC problems that every seems to be getting, but I have it one bug that has completely shut me down.
In the middle of qualifying on the list of songs for an event, I got a notice saying that I had unlocked a new venue. I finished the songs for my event, got the 'play event' option in the Rocksmith Recommends menu, played the event and... got put right back to a menu with not option other than 'playing event'. It didn't recognize that I had completed the event!
After re-playing it a couple times, I poked around the rest of the menus and found under the event manager that I had two active events: the one I was stuck on and another one that I had never seen before. I assume it was brought into existence when I got that strange venue unlock message. So, I qualified on the songs for that new event, got the 'play event' option for it, played that new event and... got put right back to the 'play event' option for the first event. I re-re-played the first event, but the game didn't recognize its completion.
So what are my options? I've tried restarting my PS3 and playing the event, that didn't help. Other than that, I'm not sure what I can do. I'd prefer not to wipe the game and restart from level 1. Any debugging tips?

Ugh.... 20 minutes into a 40 minute set and it froze on me after Jessica... strange considering this is old DLC.
It's good practice and all but come on man...
FWIW fat bottom girls was the next song in the playlist but it froze before it tallied my Jessica score so devs can figure out what that means, I'm sure you're well aware by now.
Your PS3 QA dept needs to get beaten over the head with a guitar el-kabong style, if you know what I mean.
