Thread: A "cannot initialize 3d engine" problem, that hasn't been solved | Forums

The problems the same as others that have been reported, can't run game, it will come up with the cannot run engine error. Thing is, another newer game, Nexus, wouldn't work either, direct x 8 and 9 modes both came up with these "assertion errors". I have uninstalled, and updated my video drivers, and the problem is still there, I'm using direct x c, my cards a 5900. I wonder what else could be causing this. Any ideas?

Had the same problem.. I changed the desktop resolution to 1024x768 and that did the trick.. Yes it's annoying.. I usually keep the desktop res at 1280x1024..

Bro, I know you're frustrated but, we need more system specs...

From where I stand: Could be memory failure/corruption (system and/or card). Hard drive corruption... Driver conflicts... BIOS settings...

    What games CAN you run?

    More info please...

P.S. Try what Dux-1 said above...

Tried above suggestion, didn't help. I have a geforce fx 5900, 768 ram, sound blaster audigy 2 sound card, nforce 3 mb, and besides the one other game I mentioned, EVERY game works, EVERY game, unless it doesn't run on windows xp in the first place.

Try to set refresh rate of your TFT from 76 down to 75 hz.
For a german player that solved the problem.
