Thread: Help! Radeon 9800 graphic artifacts | Forums

  1. #1
    Hello,

Well, I'd love to get playing lads, but I seem to have a pretty major problem with my graphics:

When I go to the bridge/periscope/binocs/free-camera on any mission (at least the night ones so far), I see a huge black square to the east (covers 80% of the screen), with a bright, hazy, circle in the middle. If I had to guess, it looks like the moon, only it's almost 6 times larger than it should be, and well, there's a big ugly black box around it. It looks like hell.

I have the latest drivers (re)installed, directX 9c. System specs:
    Radeon 9800 w/ 128M RAM.
    AMD 2600+
    1G RAM
    SB Audigy 2.

    SOS. Please help, anybody.

    cheers
    Oliver

I have pretty similar specs to you. The games runs no problem.

    AMD 2800
    ATI 9800 Pro 128MB
    1GB Ram
    SB Audigy 2

It migtht be a driver Issue.
Is you ATI 9800 the standard or Pro?

    Hi Pappy55,

Well, I guess that's reassuring. Thanks for the quick response!

    I'm using a pro btw.

I'm going to uninstall everything and start from scratch and see what happens.

My 9800 pro runs fine too. In addition to asking do you have standard or pro, do you have the 128 meg version or 256 meg version?

I see the same thing and I have a GeForce4 5200. That thing we see is the file that can be found in the data/misc. folder and is named Lightspot. Now how do we get it to display correctly?

Well, just did a complete re-install of my graphics drivers and the game itself. Same problem. Confirmed my DIrect X version was 9.0c and ran the Direct X diagnostics to make sure all was well there.

I'm going to try a few more things....let me know if you hear anything, and I'll let you guys know if I figure anything out.

    cheers

PS forgot to mention in my orig post but FWIW I'm running XP SP2.

Try to start the game from the autorun on the dvd, it sounds odd but you can read about it here http://207.44.164.159/phpBB/viewtopi...highlight=blob

That is so messed up. It works.....so far. Additonally, the water looks better; there were artifacts in the reflections that I hadn't noticed until they were gone..

Since this workaround doesn't make any sense, I'm not going to consider the problem "solved" yet---I get the feeling I've just delayed the inevitable with a bit of voodoo. That being said, I'm thankful nonetheless.

I'll play a bit more and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all of the responses! This is one of the most helpful forums I've found yet!

    cheers
    Oliver

I have the same graphics card and sound card and also 1gb RAM as you do, and I have no problems at all. I do however have an A64 3400+, but I don't think that should make any difference. Do you have the ATI Catalyst or the Omega drivers installed?
If you have the ATI drivers installed, you might want to try the Omegas. I have the latest Omegas, and as I said, I have no problems at all. Sometimes something as simple as this can make the difference.
