I thought it would be interesting to have a thread about cars but not your everyday car. Let's keep this thread relative to alternative sources of energy for cars.

Here's a 1925 Doble owned by Jay Leno. There's a good video where Leno explains how this steam powered car works.

This is pretty good considering the era it comes from.

I'm pretty excited to see what happens with the Chevy Volt.

Its a neat concept where the initial version of the car will have electric motors driving the wheels and a small gasoline engine that generates the electricity plus batteries and regenerative breaking. Sort of a hybrid but totally unlike any others on the road. The neat thing is that if you want to make it run on ethanol or hydrogen then you just need to supplant the components related to the storage and use of the fuel rather than the entire powertrain.

GM's track record is not good on stuff like this in the past...but I think they may be sensing the shift in the winds.

Steam powered like your head. I bet you have to light your own farts on fire to get your brain to turn over on a cold morning..

Sorry I couldn't resist that one Pirschjaeger.

Like the song says.."bad to the bone.."

    Joeap,

    Oh ye of little faith.

    Simplified Example

    IceFire,

in my opinion, hybrids that use gas are a joke. Hybrids are nothing more than and insurance policy for the oil companies.

Why use gas when you can both use and clean the air at the same time? Keep in mind, this show is from 2005. Here's an update.

    Here's more.

These are to be on the market in summer of 2008.

    Stalker-V,

1925 is the date, not the price.

The only thing that bothers me about that little air car, would be in that old joke about the 2 truckers in an 18 wheeler, when a bug went splat on the winshield, one says, "I bet he doesn't have the guts to do that again"

Do you know the last thing that went through that bug's mind?

    His ***hole.

It is rather small, at least the CityCat, but hey, I've seen DB Smarts on the autobahn. No that takes ******.
