When leaving Relto for another world, I get an error report - '10-02-2003 Branch - Build 10/9/2003 at 6:53 AM has stopped working' and Uru is close down. This is on a brand new Vista machine

    First, read through:
-- How to use User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista
    -- Uru: Saving Game Progress
-- Uru: When to Apply the Version 1.2 Patch

Run Uru with full Administrator Privileges or by using Run as administrator. If that's what you've been doing, try the following in the order shown:

    1. Apply the Uru version 1.2 patch, UruUpdate12.exe.
-- a. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Do NOT boot up with your Uru disc in the drive.
-- b. Download UruUpdate12.exe to a folder on your hard disk, NOT to the Desktop.
-- c. Disable all anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software running in the background, and apply the version 1.2 patch.
----- 1. Click on Start > Run, and Browse... to the folder where you saved UruUpdate12.exe.
----- 2. Double-click on UruUpdate12.exe to put it in the Open: box, then click on OK to start patch application.
----- 3. When the patch has been successfully applied, close back to the Desktop.
    -- d. Reactivate your anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software.
-- e. Place the original Uru disk in your CD or DVD drive, and allow it to spin up to speed. If Setup autostarts, cancel back to the Desktop.
-- f. Start Uru using the start icon. On the Uru Setup menu's Update tab (if available), click on Check for Updates.
    -- g. Play the game.

    2. Reinstall Uru.
-- a. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Do NOT boot up with your Uru disc in the drive.
-- b.Copy your \sav folder and subfolders from \Uru - Ages Beyond Myst to somewhere safe on your hard disk.
-- c. Disable all anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software running in the background.
-- d. Place the original Uru disk in your CD or DVD drive, and allow it to spin up to speed. If Setup autostarts, cancel back to the Desktop.
-- e. Click on Start > Run, and Browse... to the \Installer folder on the Uru disc.
-- f. Double-click on install.exe to put it in the Open: box, then click on OK to start installation.
-- g. Select your language, click on OK, then click on Next for the Introduction.
-- h. For Previous Installation detected!, click on No (don't uninstall).
-- i. Accept the terms of the License Agreement, then click on Next.
-- j. Choose the folder where you want Uru installed (default recommended), then click on Next.
-- k. Choose a location for the icons, then click on Next.
-- l. Review the Summary, then click on Install.
-- m. For Register for Uru Live?, click on the No, I do not want to register.... button, then click on Next.
-- n. Click No Thanks, then click on Done.
-- o. Copy your saved \sav folder and subfolders back to their original position in the Program Files \Uru - Ages Beyond Myst directory, overwriting what's there. (Not absolutely necessary, but a good thing to do anyway.)
-- p. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Do NOT boot up with your Uru disc in the drive.
-- q. Disable all anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software running in the background, and apply the version 1.2 patch.
    -- r. Reactivate your anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software.
-- s. Place the original Uru disk in your CD or DVD drive, and allow it to spin up to speed. If Setup autostarts, cancel back to the Desktop.
-- t. Start Uru using the start icon. On the Uru Setup menu's Update tab (if available), click on Check for Updates.
    -- u. Play the game.

If reinstalling Uru doesn't help, try what's called out in How to troubleshoot application compatibility issues in Windows Vista.
