Glad to see things are improving! So what's your opinion of the game now?Originally posted by Celeon999:
Thanks for pointing me to that beta patch. Just installed it and im seeing a signifant performance boost![]()
Im also seeing some new graphics settings like true fullscreen and Vsync being present now.![]()

What i like most are the highly detailed cockpits and the shadows which are cast into them by a brilliant looking lighting engine.
Performance is still not good enough, there is more work to be done but it seems the devs are on the right path of tracking down to the source of the problems. For instance there are still these mysterious lags that happen for me in a dog fight. Once i get real close to other planes , the game suddenly freezes for up to 2 seconds. Propably some sort of memory buffer overflow while loading textures or something.
Cooperation with graphic driver programmers will definitely result in improvements here aswell.
There is much room for improvements by mods. For, me sound is one of the most important things in simulations. Nothing undermines realistic simulations more than bad sound.
For instance the weapon sounds are really cheap and are clearly nothing but digitized buzzing sounds. Maybe they were just placeholders when the sim was released. In-cockpit engine sounds are great ,sound right and consequently feel realistic but its the opposite with external view sounds. For instance, the Spitfire engine noise is a much too clearly recognizable looping sound file that lacks bite and really goes on your nerves pretty quickly. Same with the Bf109. Other planes sound even worse, for instance the Stuka. Like someone has put a microphone to his lawnmower or something.
Also, when you open the cockpit canopy in flight, the sound atmosphere around you does not change. Of course, it should change big time. No noise by the wind, no louder and different sounds coming from the engine.
Thats all food for the modding community which will surely take care of that soon.![]()
I'm with you on the sounds etc. placeholder is a great descriptionOriginally posted by Celeon999:

The lag issues may be down to graphics drivers - I read elsewhere that some guys were doubling their FPS by rolling back to 266.58 drivers - I'm using these with high model detail on a GTX 580, and I'm not getting any lag at all - I'm finding it to be very smooth where it matters.
Worth experimenting?
Im using 266.58 at the moment. When it tried to update to 270.61 lately, all it got me was a repeating bluescreen on windows startup.
Had to use windows recovery to get my system working again. Never experienced a harsh bluescreen error from just installing new graphics driver before.![]()
Luckily, Windows update creates automatic recovery images everytime it updates W7 or just looks for updates. Luckily the last happened to be created a few hours before my 270.61 install.
So i was able to roll back my system and that saved me from a total reinstall as i could not even access the windows secure mode anymore. (Bootmenu stubbornly refused to give me that option for some crazy reason)
No idea what the problem was but the bluescreen suggested a "bad driver error" with one of the .dll files of 270.61
So no experiements for me until the next driver version comes out.
Ironically, it was a post on the 1CForums about possible start up problems of CloD with the 26x series of drivers that made me go for the new 270 even before Clod arrived at my doorstep
Of course, when i got my system running again and installed Clod, i experienced no start up problems with 266 whatsoever![]()
Whatever one does , he does it wrong.![]()
"Back in the day"
We used to ask for System specs.(Used to have pages of the stuff.) Now it's "Won't work. Somebody else sort it out".
Any chance?
Actually 250GTS ...... Erm no. I was able to play with a GTX285(I have 2 but SLI unsupported.)
From what I was getting was enough to see potential. Not much more than just.
The only real plane I have ever flown in. Guess the DH. Rapide is the only REAL Plane?
meh ... "back in the day" (before XBOX and the massive influx of cash strapped gamer kids playing on the family PC entered into the sim market) it was understood that "minimum specs" gave you a barely playable preview and that many games were unplayable on max graphics until next years PC's were designed and released.Originally posted by JSG72:

FPS whiners with older PCS should be ignored.
That said ...
Bugs are a TOTALLY different matter. Releasing a new game without tracking down major bugs (Vista fashion) is extremely bad form.
