Thread: Is there REALLY anyone who can say: "I allways got high fps" ? | Forums

1. #1
I have NEVER spent so much money in computer during one year, than this year. My current rig is below, but: I have had lockon allmost since it appeared, and played it a lot. Have tried mods and things to get more fps. For example in 3Dmark03 gives me 6100 points. But in lockon, medium-high settings give me average of 14 fps over city. It ain't playable, I think. And same time someone has 9800pro and 2400+ amd and he says :"lock works perfectly, allways fps +50 at higher settings". And I have read these "+50" things a LOT in here. So what I'm saying, I think people talk here somewhat "altered truth". Or is here really really someone with highest settings and even +25 fps EVERYWHERE????

AMD Athlon 64-bit 3000+
1 Gig DDR 3200
ATI 9800XT Cat 4.10
DX9.0c
X45

50+ but they play a low settings I bet. I have spent a ton of money also and still have lots of problems. You are not alone...

I can certainley say I do, whether you choose to believe me or not, thats fine.

But I can say over a city frames dont drop below 28fps and the norm is about 50+ dependant on altitude, graphics high, not fully full though.

Graphics Card set to optimum graphics, full AA and AF

rig is:
SELF BUILD

Intel Pentium 4 - 2.8Ghz HT 800Mhz FSB 512kb cache
1024Mb 400MHz PC3200 Samsung RAM in Dual Channel
Radeon 9800XT 256Mb OEM 4.10 CAT
Seagate 40Gb 7200RPM (Master)
Fujitsu 20Gb 7200RPM (Slave)
DX 9.0c
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
Logitech Wingman Extreme Joystick
Windows XP SP1

On a side note Cali, what is it like playing LOMAC on a 22 inch screen? I bet that is real great!!!

SAM-Smasher, we have pretty much same rig. So I don't get it. Mine 14 fps versus yours, 28 fps. It's twice as much. Something is really wrong with mine or you have some nice mods there. Don't know, strange game anyway.

Gotta do some research about graphic settings. Again.

And SAM-Smasher, if you've done 3DMark03 (patched), Really like to know your score

BP;
The variations between you and SAM-S could be explained by your system graphics settings, Lock On graphics settings, and mission choices.

For example;
You could be playing LockOn at 1600x1200 vs and SAM @ 1280x1024.
You may have Cockpit mirrors and Cockpit Reflections set on and SAM may have them off.
SAM maybe flying missions mostly in clear weather and low numbers of AI activity and you maybe flying in weather with larger numbers of AI planes and vehicles.

Depending on what choices you make LockOn can bring any system to its knees.
On the other hand I have to say I get results closer to his than yours. But then I dont insist on using the HIGH graphics options. With my usual MED settings, 1024x768 2AA/4AF I rarely drop below 20FPS flying low over cities unless I've selected a mission with overcast or other weather features.

I know that. But:

Res 1280x1024
Reflection and mirrors off
Weather clear
No AI, No other vehicles, just me

All the mods and tweaks what I could find here

AA and AF "application decides" , so meaning those are OFF

Plane F-15, low flying over city(not small one, any big city). About 14 fps.

This is really getting interesting....

You have a very good video card, I'm waiting on my X800pro. Hopefully it will be here saturday or next week for sure. My brother sent it to the wrong person that nucklehead! My monitor is a 22 inch but it is 20 inch viewable. It is very nice to have a biug screen to play on. I couldn't dream of playing on a 17" that would suck . I have a spare 19" viewable anyone close to Alaska?

In which case I dont get how my system could vary from yours BiggestPig, I did some messing about trying to make things run bad, DX sound accelaration screws it up big time, HT enabled causes stuttering, no mods makes it even worse, and actually the weirdest thing was lowering the settings on my G-card sent the fps down quite a bit, oh and turning the virus scanner back on... its not worth even loading LOMAC. ( DX Sound accelaration needs to be turned off, this is very important with fps ).

I have my card set to full whack and I dont use Cat control centre ( bad experiences and frayed tempers ).

Although I can set my res to the highest the difference in graphical quality is negligable, but due to some loss of fps its not worth the bother, so I play on 1280 x 1024 which is acceptable.

I have to admit though I had problems at the start and I have done some serious tweaking in LOMAN to find the best graphics with the best fps, which took some work, but its set to an optimum level with little or no impact on graphical quality ( back of the box jobby )

I am deeply puzzled by your problem BiggestPig, but im sure with your rig and especially with that G-card you should not have a problem, I think you need to do some serious tweaking and fiddling with LOMAN and pinpoint the bottleneck of the game which your rig is struggling with.

I hope what I have said has given you some ideas? hope you can get LOMAC running smooth soon, its a rough ride but truely its worth the bother in the end, im sure Cali would agree.

Oh and Cali, your really a lucky sod with that monitor, **** it im playing LOMAC on 17", but thats great compared to my old 15", perhaps it may be a wise investment me getting a bigger sized monitor .

Sorry if reply doesnt cover everything, but its 2:30am here in the UK and im knackerd, need some serious sleep...

ciao guys

Got to go trough my settings and try and try again....

Switched to omega, based on cat 4.10. Will see.

>

Interesting observation: If I set res to 1024x768, my fps go down few points! I get better fps with 1280x1024. Strange, but true. So why use smaller res when bigger is faster

Got some beer and whole night, will see what it looks like tomorrow

Same here, 17". Probably the next purchase. But it takes time until it's sitting here in front of me....
