Thread: how to create single player missions? | Forums

  1. #1
So I finished the single player and I thought I will start messing with the map creator.

I found the map creator fairly easy to use and efficient.

So, I created a map and now I am trying to add some AI and I just cannot find any way to add them. Can anyone help me?

You cant place AI or make sinlge player or co-op missions. The editor can only be used for making multiplayer maps and thats it.

Far Cry 2's editor isn't really an editor. You can make maps and simple objectives and that's about it.

For a real editor, try the editor that comes with Unreal Tournament 3.

Look at the maps that are available for that game. Remember, these are USER-MADE maps. Some of them with custom objectives. Oh, and the AI algorithms are user-made too.

Ubisoft doesn't like to give out editors or SDK's. An SDK was promised for Raven Shield.

    That was six years ago.

A "full on" map editor was promised for Far Cry 2. All I saw was a multiplayer map editor/creator. That's it.

I've never really been able to understand Ubi's policy on this as regards their FPS games, because for other games they produce, they do give out editors that can make both sp and mp maps.

Although I must admit, making sp maps in some of them can be a bit daunting to the novice, mainly because of the scripting involved for the AI and quests.

Ok, but that doesn't make every UT3 mapper a novice.

Have you seen all the maps made for UT2004? Many of them were created by average, ordinary citizens like you and me. Some with more game design knowledge, others with less. For those who we might call "novices" there are tons of resources to use and learn before using an Unreal editor.

I wasn't referring to the Unreal editor neil, I was referring to the games that Ubi releases editors for that can make sp maps.
They seem to think it's ok to release a full editor for RTS games, but get a bit coy about doing the same for their FPS games, for some reason, they either seem to think people only want to make mp maps for those, or they simply don't want people making sp maps.
