I miss having my Radeon 8500 and tweaking the settings to keep most of the visual splendour, but increasing FPS. With a 9800 Pro, I do not have to do that, and everything is on High or Very High. No worries, and I think, less fun in some respects.

I think tweaking the graphics settings with a Geforce 3 or Geforce FX 5200 or Radeon 8500-9200 make playing games that are graphically demanding, like Far Cry, more fun to play. Does anyone agree?

Do not get me wrong, having an awesome video card makes the game fun in a different way. Like you and your computer are conquering the developers attempts to prevent you from beating the game. I do the shooting, and my comp conquers the frame rate. He he.

I do enjoy tweeking my system to make a game run better. I've made far cry run alot better by tweeking my gf4600. Went from jerky to smoothe with higher settings to boot. I got a kick out of doing it too.

you can still tweak your system to run faster! just because its smooth does mean you have the best frame rates you can get! you have a 9800 pro right if you have everything on full and a high res then your frames would be that good around 40?/ maybe less

I upgraded from a GeForce 4 to a Radeon 9800 Pro...
The results are kinda disappointing so far.

Even though my 3dmark score went up from 1550 to 5200 I still don't notice any big differences in FC and still need to run everything on low (except Lighting ofcourse).

So if you miss tweaking your old settings maybe you can help mine

Start off with the farcry guide from www.tweakguides.com

If that solves the problem, then there's nothing else you need to do eh? Otherwise, I guess you gotta upgrade the other components in your system that might be weak.
