Thread: In-game Credit | Forums

  1. #1
Do you guys think ubi will give me credit for helping to design the Multiplayer for the new Rainbow 6. They've specifically taken my idea directly from this forum and implimented it into Rainbow 6. The idea for MP about the generals table/lobby and developing tactics is pulled directly from my post. It's right here.

Being a game design grad and someone that ultimately would like to break into the industry and design games. It would nice to add to a resume. I hope someone out there is listening.

Not a new idea, sorry. This ability has been around in the GR & R6 world for a long time.

It's interesting that you sent me to a wiki that was just recently created as of the 18th of Dec. My original post is a year and half old. June 2010 to be precise. I'm not asking for the world here guys. I just want some in game credit. It takes two seconds to add my name to the credits list. What's the harm with an entry level design credit?

I mean don't most entry level designers do the system designs on paper and maintain the docs. That's basically what I did on here. I created content for the game design doc. I just don't see what the problem is. I'm not asking for full design credit on the MP. Just an entry level credit for making you guys think.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but that wiki page was created in 2007. That tool has been around as long as I can remember - we used to use it for GR2. The GR2 version was created and released for free by Ubisoft in 2005 when they still gave a **** about the community, and the download link is even still active if you want to play with it: http://www.ubi.com/US/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=803

I must be missing something, because I thought that part of writing in forums was to point out thing to devs, ideas , suggestions, ect. So you wrote a suggestion , now you're upset they used it. What are you smoking? Come off it. Did you copy right it? Patent it? Do anything what so ever to protect your right to it? If not, tough. Consider it stolen, thats if it was actually solely your idea. People do sometime think of the same ideas, that is possible. But then again thats one of the reasons why we have copyrights, and patents. Consider it a lesson learn homeboy and keep it moving.

I wasn't being ****ed off here. I was just hoping they'd hook a fellow designer up and not be a **** about it. That's all. If it's such a big deal no problem I didn't mean to get any panties in a bunch. It's just ubi showing their true colors yet again.

Dude, posting ideas on forums WITHOUT documenting them is a bad idea. In this case even if you prove that you came up with the idea...whats to say that the designers at Ubi did not do it in parallel?

If you have access to the Ubi Design Docs, their development schedules and can prove that THEIR idea was implemented after yours...you may have a fair chance at getting the credit. Until then its your word against theirs.

If Ubi did indeed take your idea...I hope you get the credit...but there is no point in campaigning for a rough pitch idea on the forum. ..especially by implying that Ubi 'stole' your idea.
The best way to have go about it would've been to PM the admins and see if they responded...the forum thread would have been necessary in case they refuse to acknowledge your claim.

For now, chill out, enjoy the new year...and make it a resolution to copyright ideas before publishing them on online forums.

Hey, at least you know you're thinking along the right lines.

You've come up with a good idea, it just happened that someone else had the same idea. Doesn't make you less creative it makes you as creative.

Keep it up and maybe sometime we'll all be on a forum talking about your game.
