My dissapointment with HOE is mainly the sloppiness of the controls, where I don't feel that I can master my fate...that is I'm at the mercy of luck when I actually accomplish something. It's like driving an old car with bad shocks and all over the road...a bad experience---and truely, I feel very frustrated and angry when I play this game. Until the makers can figure out how to firm up the controls and stiffen the exactitude, games like this will never really make it...and will be just throw away games. Why haven't they learned after the same old B.S. LIKE Heroes of the Pacific, and Blazing Angels---and let me tell you these are all the same.I can commend some of the artistry, with the beautiful villages and scenic mountains, as that's not the complaint. The newsclippings and some of the intros add an air of suspense and intrigue. This really gets you feeling like you're getting into an intense drama. This is also very commendable and good showmanship and ...salesmanship.However, all of this only magnifies the letdown of a sloppy, soupy game and wasted money.
The lack of a definable cockpit(except for the "staple-on" versions inBlazing Angels) leaves for further lack of choice. And I gotta tell ya, the mentality of a pilot needs to be in control, and make pinpoint, exact, and life and death decisions.
And finally, the goal-oriented, jump through hoops choreography reminds me of the days of bad gym classes---man, people want to choose campaigns, or even single missions, not to have to start back at the beginning and repeat the same monotonous scenarios every time I turn on the game.It makes me just want to...not turn it on.
Well, I'm sorry I had to bash this game like this, but my wallet got a little damaged. And it makes me wonder how the designers aren't aware of these things, I mean are they "stuck on stupid?". The answer is "no", these guys are "slick".They figured out how to turn s--t into gold. The person who is "stuck on stupid" is me for coming back for more punishment.I should learn to stay with the winners. Those iconic sims that are not throw aways, which have and will stand the test of time, the real deal, and not the wannabees...
