Thread: Are eclipses modeled in the celestial display? | Forums

I have a vague recollection they are but I don't recall. If they are I missed one of the two total lunar eclipses in 1942.

There is another one that should happen 26 August, 0346 Zulu. There is also a total solar eclipse 4 February 1943 that is/was visible in the Pacific. I'm currently in early June 1942.

Can't- say I've ever seen any kind of eclipses modeled in SHIV. That being said, maybe someone has a more definitive answer for you, paul.

Well, if it's clear, I'll look for the August 26 Lunar eclipse and take some screenshots if it happens. Frankly, I'd be surprised if they aren't included - all of the sun/moon rise/set and lunar phases are modeled as are the constellations, to the extent that I've bothered to check. It's one of the really neat aspects of this game that I can actually plan attacks based upon the phases of the moon.

Upon reflection, I don't think I'll be able to see the lunar eclipse even if it is modeled. Totality occurs at 0346 Zulu. Hawaii is -11. that would make it 1646 Hawii time, 25 August. The eclipse would be over before the moon even rose. It might be possible to catch the beginning of the eclipse if far enough west but practically, I don't think it's feasible.

Now the total solar eclipse in the Pacific 4 Feb 1943 is possible to see if it's modeled.

And if the weather's bad where you live, you can see live pictures on this web site:

(It's the little bitty image under the observatory picture. Click on it to see a larger version.)

There are probably other web sites showing it live, but I'm not the webmaster of them, so I can't tell you about them.

Of course if it's cloudy in Baton Rouge...
