A feature? I hope not because i think it's annoying.

When i'm flying around in LOMAC as soon as i hit high speeds i lose the engine sounds. Does this simulate the 'going faster then sound'?

I find it very annoying when i hear nothing at all. As soon as i slow down the engine sound pops back up.

do i just have to life with this?

Yes, that's going supersonic. You still hear the avionics' sounds. Such as any active contacts on the RWR/Beryoza.
