Thread: The Taste of Video Game | Forums

  1. #1
In all of my previous years of playing video games, I've only been able to get a little smell of what I was doing. But now, it appears I will get to taste double agent, because every aspect of it will be spoon fed to us from our good friends at ubisoft.

What a relief huh? I mean after a few years, didn't all of you guys get tired of actually having to learn how to play the game? Yeah, that’s so 2003.

Instead of turning on my flashlight, and having my friend watch my back as I inspect around every corner, I will turn on my trusty proximity device and find those sneaky spies with ease, and send my friend off on other duties. And instead of mining the outside of an important vent, or placing a spytrap near its exit, ill just send a drone that can fly into it, and move on.

Whats missing from double agent then? Ahh yes that’s right, a learning curve. Back when CT was in its prime, I respected the fact that I just got served by people like Havok or Mr. Mic, the entire "LoS" and "CK" clans, and all of those "leet" PC players, and I went and found people that were of a similar skill level to play with, until I felt I was better at the game.

That’s no fair though, even though all of them put over 100 hours into the game, I should stand a chance against them right? No, I shouldn't, I should just leave and find people of my own skill to practice against. And THAT, is where ubi made their mistake. Instead of giving new players a chance, they should focus alot more on merely matching them with players of similar skill, it worked with Halo 2, so there’s no reason for it not to work now. No need to get "tutored" by other players or anything like that.

Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow had endless room for expansion of your personal skills, this has been significantly shrunk for Double Agent. Hopefully though, with an October delay, Ubi has more of a chance to think about some of the features they are putting into the game, especially the proxy.

Nothing against ubi employees here like smith, Rhoulette etc, Just my two cents presented to you in a 376 word "waste of your time".

Double agent does have a matchmaking system that I think will work. you get matched with people of your skills, and the tutoring part is optional I think.

    Well put BillionMan3001.

What's the point of playing a game that takes no skill? The reason why a lot of the community still plays versus, because its a challenging game. No one enjoys playing a game agaisnt noobs, if the player themselves is not a noob. That's why, most of the vet versus players aren't playing that often. They only want to play people of their same skill level, not just pop online randomly, and play whoever is online at the moment.

Ubisoft thinks that they can solve this problem by making sure everyone starts, and basically stays on approximately the same skill level. This will make sure that noobs arent discouraged from playing. This ruins the fun of the game.

People play games for mainly two reasons. 1 - To have fun. 2 - To become the best, or better at that game they wish to play. Admitedly, the new versus mode still could be fun. But, if a game requires nearly no skill, then how can someone become better at it? Ranking mode (not that many people play it) will be more about dedication to playing a game over and over again, then actual skill at it.

How exactly would a matchmaking system help? The new versus mode is now turning a lot into a mindless game. Not much skill is involved. So being matched with people with the same skill level as yourself is kinda stupid.

    Well that's my two cents.

Exactly, and what we have here is a terrible balance between fun and skill.

Yea, and what is the point of this matchmaking system in a game which now takes little to no skill?

You make a good point billionman and many of the reasons you mentioned are why I love CT SvM (never played PT). While I will seriously miss the way the game plays, I'm still hoping there is that same "feel" in DA that CT gave me. The learning curve was the main reason why I stayed with this game.

Unfortunately, most of ubisoft's customers are most likely between the age group of 9-12 and most of those kids want "FAST FAST FAST OMG IF I DONT WIN I CRY AND NEVER PLAY AGAIN." It's unfortunate that the game is turning out this way but there is one thing to hope for; we haven't played the game yet and it's uncertain on how lame/cool certain aspects are (drone, proximity detector).

I agree vega, the learning curve was what made me stick with the game. I remember going into matches in PT and getting completely owned by mercs and spies when i first rented the game. I saw them pulling off all these cool moves and i wanted to have the fun they were having. This is what made me stick with the game, and i eventually got better and better. The learning curve made me stick with the game, not turn me away from it.

Wow, you guys are all absolutely correct!

Ubi has made it so that someone who has been playing for a hundred hours will only be as good as when they first started! So lame-o! I mean whats going to happen when I've been playing the game for like a year, and some noob decides to join my game? I'll tell you, Ubi, what's going to happen...uhh this new guy invading my turf is going to totally frickin own me! I mean like total PWNAGE!

Ubi YOU'RE so dumb and stupid for this. I hate you and wished you would never release Double Agent. Unless of course you guys decide to make no changes in the series for the rest of eternity, and recall all copies of Double Agent when its released. Im definately not playing it! Maybe they will release a patch to fix all of these problems? We should start a petition guys!

I guess I'll go play a game where you can shoot a flash bang, a chaff, smoke and a sticky cam in less than one second so I have a better chance at killing this heavily armored soldier. Because THAT'S real skill after all.

Maybe in like 2009 when Im still playing CT on my regular Xbox, I MIGHT...that's a big MIGHT (<--so is this one<--), get a 360 when they release Triple Agent. That's if it totally R00lzz like CT does! Yeah! Woo!

well for double agent everyone will start again at 0 not like from PT to CT. The gameplay is very different, its some new kind of splinter cell style. Everyone will start again as a noob. Lets see if the oldskool stay where they are :P.
