You can't actually use Ventrilo to talk in game. It's a separate program running, on a separate Ventrilo server. You need to create a Ventrilo server and have those that you would like to talk to join your Ventrilo server. Is that what you were thinking of?

The 2.2 client will not work with 2.1 servers, and the 2.2 servers cost money now for licensing...in short, he needs the 2.1.4 client

Uh, since when did the 2.2 server cost money for licensing? You can still d/l it for free and host it if you need. My gaming community runs 2.2 atm.

The latest server version restricts you to 8 slots UNLESS to can buy a license as a legtimate server service that charges it's users and the dev can make money from it.
DO NOT upgrade to the latest version if you are running a private free server for your clan. Stay with 2.1. You will be sorry if you do. The author is taking lots of flak for this new policy that attemps to stop Vent's illegal use by peeps selling time on servers for vent but not paying the author.Those, like my own clan that have thier own voice server and more than 8 members, would be unable to use it under this new policy.
