The Iowa is nice, but if you want a big boom, find a NC BB. For whatever reason one torp will always sink it and it is by far the largest explosion of any ship I've seen in game, then it sinks in seconds like a brick. The Iowa needs about 6 torps.
Course this is playing OM with RSRD. Find Halsey's TF heading North for the battle of Leyte...you'll get many carriers, Iowa's, NC's..ect
From a personal standpoint, I hope if you do get any of those two classes, it's not the Iowa or North Carolina.

I upgraded my sub with all the latest equipment
so I could get away from the Iowa's escorts if
I managed to pull of an attack after that it was off to the pacific I was south of Midway
when a radio report of a fast moving task force
heading my way so I moved in for an attack.
I got the sound contacks of many warships so
I dove to 300 ft. I coun't beleave that the escorts didn't find me but the albritch anti sonar coating helped. I went to periscope depth
raised the periscope I couldn't believe what I
saw. There was an Iowa class battle ship with several carriers but the Iowa was the big prize.
I fired all six bow torps and 5 out of 6 hit the
target but it slowed the Iowa way down to 9knt's
Then the escorts launched thier assault I dove
back down to 300 ft and deployed decoys and
engaged the walter turbine because that was the onley way I could catch up to the Iowa submerged
then headed to the other side of the iowa for the final blow. Rose up to perisope to find that
the Iowa picked up speed again by two knots but she was not going to escape frome me I fired 4
more torpedoes all were hits then a massive
fire ball erupted in front of the super-
structure and that signalled the end of the Iowa
she rolled and in one quick motion she was under
the waves but the escorts werenn't very happy
about it. The second assault was worse than the
first I took 48% damage and had to get to port
with destroyed radar and both the scopes but it was worth it on my log it said Iowa class
battleship 45000 tons and a boat load of reknown
Good job. I enjoyed playing the bad dog and played UBoats and enjoyed attacking the large US fleets.
Take some SS's next time. Here are a few of my sinkings.
I'll just hope that was the New Jersey.
