Thread: PF can not find CD, Solved | Forums

  1. #21
For those who may read this thread who haven’t given up hope………..

I did all the above steps and still no luck.

I have a CD drive that also “burns†CD’s (as most of you do).

There are a few extra steps that need to be taken for some, including myself. Before completing the steps above.

    1. Uninstall PF and delete the Ubisoft folder that was left on your system.

    2. Shut down. Disconnect CD “burnerâ€Â.

    3. Install PF, run setup and check settings.

    4. Do the RTL fix (note: I had a corrupted RTL file and had to do this again at the end)

    5. Install 3.03 patch

    6. Start PF (if it still gives ‘insert correct cd’ get another RTL file, try downloading from another source and replace the file)

    7. Shut down system connect CD “burner†and all should be well, Merry X-mas.

Cosmo, I just tried all that, and tried everything else suggested in this thread. I still get the CD errors and cannot play the game. Strange. Everyone seems to act like this is a common issue on current games, but I've purchased a ton of games and this is the first game I've encountered this problem on.

Whoever is in charge of burning these CDs for Ubi should be fired.

If it is solved it is not solved for me. I still have the same problem and did not receive the answer to resolve it.

Man this is rediculous. Who would pay $40+ dollars for some game that doesn't work right out of the box (ME, LMAO). I've had so much experience with Patches, Mods, and other fixes with games in the past and I still can't figure this labyrinth out. I get a "Wrong CD/NO CD error" and pf.exe - Application Error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application". I looked that up and it says...

"This error is caused by one of these 3 things:

    1. X-Win32 was corrupted during the installation.

    2. X-Win32 is being interfered with by another running application(s).

    3. The user who installed X-Win32 does not have administrator privilege, in which the software was not able to store settings to the registry. To fix this, you need to remove the software, then log on as administrator and run the installation again.

Usually another application is now interfering with X-Win32. McAfee and other anti-virus products do interfere with X-Win32. The best bet is to uninstall McAfee. If that is not a possible solution for you, try starting X-Win32 first then start McAfee. McAfee locks some files that X-Win32 needs so it prevents X-Win32 from working. Usually if you start X-Win32 first, then you can start McAfee and they will coexist on the server. If McAfee is starting as a service, stop the service, start X-Win32, then restart McAfee."

I don't have McAfree, and I tried reinstalling 4+ times.

I have tried the Official rts.dll fix (104KB), a crack (104KB), copying straight from Disk 2 (1.24MB) (Should it be 3.02MB??). With AND Without the 3.03 patch first. I have tried forcing PIO on all and tried with both a CR/DVD player drive and a CD/DVD R/RW drive.

I highly doubt that the CD is corrupt. It looks fine to me. Has anybody actually had a conversation with an Ubisoft personnel where they didn't just say "download the 104KB rts.dll". Because that would be a total waste of time. Could it possibly be Another DLL? Or does anybody think there could be a fix for this error I'm having? Thx.

Yes, that 104KB DLL does solve the problem with that specific error. My problem was , I didn't restart after overwriting the old one and I had a firewall issue so it didn't start up right away. Look out for that stuff. Thanks, for reading this for no reason. *flies*

If you switched to PIO mode, whether it worked with helping install from the disc or not, make sure to switch it back to DMA afterwards when you're done :>

I purchased the game this sunday 1/2/05, of course tech lines were closed. after reading up on the rts.dll file, I tried that and it fixed me right up. I don't mind patching a game but seems like UBI ought to make replacement discs available for this. I mean, like what happens if the file becomes no longer availble? I recommend backing it up (with patch) to a CD-R, which I did
    see ya at pearl H.

I used the .dll patch and it seemed to help some. Now, the game loads then freezes at the menu screen. Any one else experiencing this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It freezes completely and I have to hard shut down.
