I just want to remind everyone that a new version of XSI EXP for HL2 is going to be downable sometime today, at:
www.softimage.com
It should allow you to create and export out, which is something you cant do with the normal XSI EXP version.

Yeah XSI or 3D 4.0 support would be nice especially for animation and compatibility with HL2 to port models. But you see, for now there is no support for MAX and Maya in the retail editing resources. We will have to wait longer. Maybe the xsi support is the reason of the delay, who knows...

you mean, HL2 SDK doesnt have support for Max and Maya? yeah they are working on it, more of Maya. Max and XSI are already supported.
Either way, you can still use this version of the XSI EXP..to mod for Far Cry.
BTW, BarfHappy..is that an asian girl in your pic?
shes pretty cute. Im asian also..so i notice those things.lol

Thank you for the pretty cute *^^*
half chinese half laosian if you want details
anyway i was talking about FarCry. It seems we will have to wait the SDK before beeing able to use our own models and structures in maps.
HL2 might be only with XSI support, i guess they have made together a proprietary model format, no ?
It s not a bad thing, XSI is a great tool
edit: changed the will to might be, because i don t know at all in fact ^^

blah...they were claiming native 3DSmax support in sandbox. They also said, Maya support is in beta..oh well. Gotta get my copy of Far Cry today.
About the, XSI format for HL2, they are using SMD format which than can be turn into .MDL format, to views your models in the model viewer. Do you use XSI, or 3DSMAX? or Maya?
BTW, im cambodain,veitnamese,and chinese myself
Hope to see you online on multiplayer! oh, check your PM

Myself i use max and maya since my bf taught me how to use them and we have the licenses at work. Our project doesn t have XSI nor 3D 4.0 licenses so i am not verry aware of softimage modeling tools lately but when HL2 comes i will buy the training course for XSI.(470pages, $69 iirc, i found it at softimage online shop). looking at the max to xsi faq i shouldn t have too much problems

Firstly, why are all the good ones taken?..
Im glad you want to learn XSI. The thing with XSI is, its more closely compared to LightWave3D, whereas 3DSMAX and Maya are more closely related. But dont let that stop you from taking a crack at it. XSI GUI is VERY simple and straight forward, you go away from it for a month or so..and come back you still know where all the buttons are..lol.
As for learning XSI, my advice is wait until XSI 4.0 hits sometime this year. XSI 4.0,should have support for floating polygons, has nice knife tool and more.
Mental Ray shaders and real-time shaders are the same now...in XSI.
Multiple real-time rigid body dynamics system.
rumour, intergration of Syflex cloth.
of course, www.xsibase.com is where all the xsi users are. We just added a new HL2 modding forum there!
oh, cool idea for a mod
good luck!
EDIT: if you can somehow get a PS2 controller USB adapter to work with Far Cry, you can attach a gun and have some real arcade like action.
