Well, I drew the joker in the deck. A photo recon of Singapore.

I took the long way around, sailing down the Straits of Malacca, sinking a coastal freighter and a big tanker on the way.

I parked in the hole west of the port and watched Tic Toc racing around the port at medium speed, so I wasn't too worried about his sonar.

I could tell by his speed that there was no way I could approach from this angle, so I spent most of the day creeping south and then east into another deep hole south of the city.

As the sun was setting, I turned north and began to inch along the coast of the island, approaching from the south east. Coming to a complete stop each time Tic Toc made his pass.

Finally, ships began to appear in the periscope, and I started taking pictures. I turned 180 and sailed out the way I came in (While Tic Toc was on the other side of his patrol area.)

I headed East all day, avoiding two convoys on the way. As night fell, I surfaced and raced out into the depths of the South China Sea.

Hey, pnwdom....I have another great sneak for you...

Dailan(sp) up in the northern part of the South China Sea (in China). Beware mines going in close to the Japan side and beware the net and mines in the harbor. There are about 4 Tic-Tocs, if I remember correctly. Lots of sprint and hide and have some good fish with you. It takes a while to pick your way in but it is a hoot for shallow water nail biting.

I had this same photo recon a few careers back. I took the same route as you but didn't run into any warships. I came across a european composite and saw a few planes but I avoided them all. I only found 1 troop transport when I got there and took several pictures of it before my assignment was complete. Then, I too exited the same way I came in. That's probably the best route to take for that mission.

The next sneak I have planned is into Hiroshima harbor. August 9th is my target date.

I want to see if anything "Interesting" happens.

(It is a secret mission!! )

    Hiroshima?

Wow, that's a bit farther inland than I think would ever go .

I've always dreamed of sneaking into Kure though. Reason is because I remember playing a quick mission in stock 1.5 (this was a while ago) where a battleship was anchored there. That, and the long, shallow approach into and out of there would probably make things interesting....not that I'm ever gonna do it though.

Another good one is Wake. A determined harbor patrol and down right uncanny shore batteries.
Don't trust the dark. Those shore gunners are being force fed carrots on steroids.

I actually snuck into Wake a few careers ago. I had nothing better to do and didn't have much tonnage. I had to take out a lone DD that was patrolling the entrance though. Lucky for me it was dusk and light fog. I got a lucky distance shot/hit on the DD and then entered the harbor at decks awash. I can't remember exactly what I found once I got there but I did manage to sink a few merchants.

I go in flat strap with all the lights on and a BBQ going on the deck - confuses the hell out of them. I ask them to smile then take the pikkie.
