    You just answered yourself?
"It is a slight inconvenience to swap cds but we do it when necessary, especially for a game as great as Splinter Cell"

Then just shut down DT and Alcohol, (then install the patch), and play? As soon as you're ready, start DT and A again?

I don't mind having to swap cds. If you read the post it is the other issues we have. This is just what happened to my friends computers. I have had raid systems come into my store that had the raid configuration destroyed because of a raid/starforce driver configuration error. I couldn't fix it for the guy without a complete install of the OS. It totally destroyed his configuration. The last thing he did was load a game running Starforce and rebooted. If you allow companies to run these programs on our computers then you are not fighting for your rights as a gamer. The PC gaming computer is dieing because of stuff like this.

If you can prove it in StarForce office, you can win 5000 dollars I think. They had some 'Prove us that it breaks your PC'-contest.

Yup, I also think it's stupid, but it's more focussed on the masses. If I play CT on a Itanium, there also aren't any StarForce drivers for that. Not many at home have RAID, so maybe the dual information (assuming RAID 0/1) on both drives screwed SF up.

Yeah I saw that. You have to fly to Moscow to prove it. Imagine how welcome you will be when you show up with information that proves there are major issues with this program. How many Russians will be unemployed after you prove it. Think you will get out of the country alive? I will stick with a Boycott.

How about a constructive solution to the piracy problem?

I think Piracy is overrated. All of my friends buy their games as soon as it is available. If they are not sure if a game is good, they might download it and try it out. Most hardcore gamers live by the rule, buy the good stuff pirate the ****. Another words if you are not sure it will be any good borrow/burn/download and try it, if you like it buy it. It is not piracy killing this industry. If you look at the old days you could copy every game out there if you had a cd burner. Most people don't have the know how or the patience to pirate games. In a way piracy built the PC community. Look at how popular games like Quake, Quake 2, Tribes were. Often pirated, but most people heard how fun these games were even if it came from a pirate and then went out and purchased it. The best way for companies to stop piracy is to start services like Steam. Yes a lot of people hate Steam but when it comes down to it most of the bugs have been worked out. It doesn't overrun your computer trying to shutdown useful programs like Star Force. If you want to stop Piracy you need programs like Steam to do it. I love the Valve games and purchased all of them off the store shelf. All the new releases I purchase from Valve will come from Steam. Why because I don't have to install any games this way, no cd swapping, no trying to make a backup to keep my cd from getting scratched, no problems with always having the latest version installed, no Star Force installing itself all over my computer, no Star Force going into my register and disabling virtual drives, and best of all no lost cd keys!! I just login to my account and it knows what games I can have downloaded on to my computer!

So here is your solution to fight piracy! Create a service like Steam.

EA is now working on a Steam type of service. Some people don't like the idea of having so many game services running in the background, but that is simple, don't load on startup of your computer, load them when you are ready to play. It is much better than the Anti Piracy Star Force Crapola!
