Thread: Why invisible walls?(SP) | Forums

  1. #1
I must say i would have had so much fun climbing all mountains, searching a way to get there. I did it in all far cry 2 multiplayer maps by ubisoft and did loads of jump maps from shoa.

I don't understand why you would put invisible walls there. Would it mess up the view distance?
It would have added loads to the free roam and i could have spend hours finding out how to get up. Sucks i get blocked after 2 meters or such...

Not sure exactly what your talking about..but in single player even though the world is supposed to be 'open' it isn't because ppl would get lost or do things before they're supposed to.
On top of that it creates more work because they then have to make sure it looks good when in those places (normally they just make the parts you can see look good).
And yes draw distance is also a factor, certain objects disappear at great distances making objects 'pop' unrealisticly into view.

you say 'would get lost or do things before they're supposed to.'

If peep get lost, they are really stupid. =)
Before they supposed to: you are here talking about the dessert, so you wouldn't get to the next map before you are far enough. This i don't mean wiht invisible wall. In second map there are also some places you only get at end. But these are well surrounded, unable to climb to these places before you may do it.

There are almost no mountains that are so close to spots that things could pop up at once like they would otherwise.
And yes they should have to make these areas more beautifull. But know that if they wouldn't do that, so just like it is now, and delete the invisible walls, only a small part of the players would get to climb them to the top. Taking away the time they needed to put invisible walls.
I would just have had fun climbing them, it's hard, but mostly there are some places to do it. I mean, in the mp maps they didn't put invisible walls, it's cool being able to climb everywhere. (i even got to get to the water in last bastion. No cheat!)

I think you overestimate the intelligence of the average person. Even in multiplayer maps with stop signs and road obstructions ppl will still drive past them if they are able, then fall off the edge of the map.
And if someone finds a deep hole thats not possible to get out, guaranteed they'd be in it in no time.
The other problem is single player needs triggers to set off maps and quests. Ubi already have a hard time of this(look up forum posts for not being able to open doors) this is usually due to doing things in an incorrect order.
Also sometimes adding an invisible wall you can see past(to see scenery in the distance) is more realistic than having impossible to climb cliffs etc everywhere.

I have never run into an invisible wall, i just think you are trying to explore too much.

    Yes: Here

It's full of invisible walls. In the south map, you got this airport, at one side the area goes up about 2 meters, and there are industrial fences. You can't get up cause of invisible wall... . I tried getting up there for 40 minutes or such, cause i wanted to attack from there. At the end i found out it was an invisible wall pushing me off.

Matty, i really advise you to not put your map so close to the edge, work more in the middle.

They didn't made the cliffs climbable. But i know which rocks you can climb and where i can find some area to put my feet, making it possible to climb them. It's just more fun.

I too was disappointed by these invisible walls. I wanted to climb a mountain nowhere near the boundary of the northern map and I kept getting led off the mountain by the walls. Another reason why Far Cry 2 didn't half live up to the Far Cry name...

This is maybe "rock climb limit" or something.

Do you see normal walls in city?

I remember when I play in single player one moment, I drive my jeep and I don't know why my vehicle stuck, can't move.

sometimes there are small things in the buttom that stuck your car. These things stick into the wheels. I had it to a few times.

Today i got up on a mountain. I was on the top, at the side. When i tried to move to the middle, i couldn't (it was barely going up more). I'll try to record it tomorrow.
