No Beyond Good & Evil 2 this generation

Michel Ancel has confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel to Beyond Good & Evil will not be released on the current generation of home consoles.

"It is still alive and we are very far [into] development so we can't go back now," he said. "We are targeting the next generation of consoles."

Very far into development. Not production. Not pre-production. Development. Very far. Maybe he misspoke but I doubt it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the next generation of consoles still pretty much on the drawing board?

Well, except for Nintendo's next console, which brings them to the current generation.

I guess the BG&E 2 team really is small. In the Assassin's Creed games it seems like it takes 30 minutes for the credits to scroll.

I don't know if this was incorrectly translated or anything, but they obviously can't be far into development if they aren't going to release it on the current generation of consoles... I've really had it with the "we're working on it" while it's obvious that they're not making any progress. We're probably talking about another few years of waiting here, which really makes you wonder why they bothered releasing the HD version now. Ancel wouldn't have switched over to work on the new Rayman if he really wanted to release the game.

Since Ancel came out to announce a new Rayman game, I am not surprised that BG&E2 isn't on the horizon yet. At least Jade was in the Ubisoft trailer and 25th Anniversary logo, so it sounds like they haven't completely forgotten about her.

Well, that could be good news. It's not what I was hoping to hear, but at least it's something. Hopefully this means that they are going to make BG&E 2 a launch title for the next Xbox/PlayStation.

What if... Nintendo will announce it in their press confgerence? If the rumors about the screen/camera controller are true, then what would be more suited for BG&E2 than Nintendo's new home console?

Your making a big assumption here. They're probably developing BG&E2 on computers specs that have surpassed the current gen consoles in order to achieve ancel's vision.

Do you honestly think, we'd be going through all of this if his heart wasn't in it.

Well the WiiU is presented. There you have your hardware, Ancel. Now I expect them to show BG&E2 next year.
