Does anyone know how to remove starforce from this game. I would like to try out this game but I heard that it has that starforce program on it that messes up your dvd drive.

The StarForce removal issue is a bit of a touchy subject, especially in light of the company's recent (and highly controversial) posting of links to illegally downloadable copies of Galactic Civilizations II, a product which opted to not utilize their copy protection.

From a purely practical level, using a StarForce protected game is usually more of an inconvenience than a danger, but if you'd rather not take the chance, there are only a handful of viable options available to you;

1) Have a look around to see if there is more than one version of the game you are looking to purchase (I'll assume in this case, that you're looking for HoMMV). Often you will find that if a European release uses one system, the U.S. counterpart might use a different (less invasive, hopefully) copy protection scheme altogether, or if not the U.S, then the European instead.

2) Sometimes there exist means of negating copy protection schemes, although that's a shady legal area for obvious reasons - and option number 1, above, is to be preferred where possible.

3) Wait for a budget release, or alternatively, HoMMVI! Maybe they won't use StarForce ...

4) Spend your cash on something else. A harsh alternative perhaps, but some companies have specifically opted not to use StarForce because of the issues associated with it and the ill-will directed at those who condone their business policies - for example, Bethesda Softworks of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion fame & StarDock responsible for the aforementioned Galactic Civilizations II.

Unfortunatly it can't be removed and illegal methodes are illegal and not mentioned or talked about on this forum.- Unlike the Starforce one where they post links to it (exaggeration is always good (it is in the plural s that exaggeration lies)) + this thread will ge closed pretty soon since we only have one starforce thread...

But if you don't want it, wait and see or try to forget HoMM V
