Thread: Assassin's Creed 2 PC - Game isn't saving | Forums

  1. #1
Everytime I play the game, I complete several story missions and exit the game when I'm done. Then later I come back, and find that my save file is 2-3 hours behind where I was previously. The game isn't saving any of my progress correctly.

I've heard several theories, such as that the game saves whenever you find a lookout or talk to a merchant but none of those have worked for me. I've also disabled saving the game online and have everything saved locally. Nothing seems to work however and everytime I start the game I find that I then have to replay 2 hours of gameplay because it wasn't saved properly.

Is there something I'm missing? Because right now this game is unplayable.

P.S. Sorry if this is a repost, but I can't find anything concrete.

I also have this problem, having lost something like 10 hours of progress, now I'm back in Florence.

Is there anyway to fix it or ensure that it doesn't occur? I'd like to be able to play knowing that my progress is being saved, otherwise I feel there is no point to it.

I know it probably doesn't matter much now since you've got your money already, but this, along with the horrible DRM, give me plenty of reason not to purchase Ubisoft games ever again.

This is a common problem and has been discussed at length. I am sure you can find topics on the next few pages but I will tell you how I fixed it.....well %95 fixed it.

This only works for Windows 7 so if you are using something else please scoll on to find another topic of this nature.

Do a search for AssassinsCreedIIgame.exe. If you are using steam you can find it here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assassin's creed 2

Find the compatibility tab. Set it to run under Windows XP Serive Pak 2. I never tried the service pak 3 option so it probably works too.

Restart the game. Win7 will ask you if you want to continue with the program. Say yes.

I started where I left off with my last data loss. Only 5 missions into the game. I made it to the end of the game with only 2 save games lost and I saw it happen as the saving 'diamond' was stuck on in the lower right of the screen. I went from constantly losing data to it only happening twice.

ah, I remember always seeing that diamond and wondering what on earth was up with it. Thanks for the heads up and the advice.

Not that I really feel like playing right now. sigh.

This has just happened to me, I was really enjoying the game but now I have lost about four hours of progress. I'm sure there is a way to fix it but that won't restore the four hours I've lost, no choice now but to uninstall the game. I definitely won't buy another Ubisoft game while they continue the policy of punishing legitimate customers with a required Internet connect that doesn't even save your progress correctly.

WORKAROUND---I too have lost about 15 hours of gameplay. Now, after every synchronisation (be it a map update or Villa visit) I navigate to Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\storage\bWlnYWxvbw==\4 and copy "2.save" and "2save.metadata" files and paste them into a new documents folder. It takes a bit more time but, since I have been doing the above, I have not lost any further hours of precious gameplay, even after a freeze or crash to desktop. I cannot be sure this has prevented the lost saves issue BUT it has worked for me 100% of the time. I hope it works for you.

ERROR! Check my post below - - -

Having lost for the third time hours of game play after closing closing windows I come here for an answer. I'm particularly miffed at this latest lost as I'm not looking forward to chasing the fox and doing all of Novella's Secret again. And all I did at the villa after that. I'm gonna try migaloo's save tactic. But am posting here in hopes that they are still working on a fix for this (don't laugh - I'm an optimist). Any Ideas if I turn off the save online feature would this problem go away? Thats to say does everyone with this problem have save online turned on? And, of course, I take it we are all pc users.

Sorry HeroCrafter and others. But my system of saving failed today. After a 7 hour session, I checked my save2 data. It had not updated and did not give me the latest synch. I had completed an entire sequence (5 thru to 6) and I am really angry right now. How can Ubisoft let this major flaw go unpatched and unanswered. Where are the administrators and their advice? Who's running this show?

    <Sigh>
Didn't work for me either. Lost quite a few hours this time too. Now I'm trying what justinpunny wrote in this thread. I really would like to hear whats going on. Has this bug been around since launch, so long ago. Is it a product of the relaxing of the drm, ie a new bug brought on by a patch? Is the server to busy or being hack or has nothing to do with the server? If its been around since launch then theres no hope for a fix.
