I have been searching all over the place; YouTube, Google, on these forums, in vain to find anyone that has reviewed the guitar that comes in the bundles. I have found a few small text reviews here and there but they almost all are bad reviews about how you cannot intonate it and it falls out of tune quickly.

I was thinking about getting the bundle, but if the guitar is that bad I might pass on it and just get the PC or PS3 version and pick up a mid-level guitar.

personally i like the epiphone les paul better, maybe a little bit more, but well worth the extra you spend and you won't outgrow it any time soon.

I personally wasn't happy with it the ephiphone les paul jr. Rocksmith was an impulse buy for me because I didn't hear anything the game until the day before release. I got so hyped about the game that, rather than shop around for a decent used guitar, I got the bundle. On my les paul, one of the wires for the jack where the cord plugs in was loose, so I had issues where the game would register the wrong notes. I thought it was an intonation problem, but after a few days it came completely loose and made very loud hum and that's when I figured out the problem. But even after resoldering that, while it was an improvement, I still wasn't happy. Went out and found a decent Ephipone SG for $225 and am much happier and getting much better results. So, I guess my point after this long rambling, is that I think that with anything mass produced like the guitar in the bundle, there will be hits and misses. I think shopping around will be better in the long run, if you really plan on sticking with it, because it does end up being a pretty large investment. That being said, I love this game. Good luck

I just went to a "Music Go Round" store where they deal in used equipment. The had real electric guitars starting at $39. Acutally, I have an Epiphone that looks like a Fender Strat (sorry I don't know the model #) and there was one there in better shape than mine for $70. I saw a cool looking Ibanez for $120. There guitars are all setup and ready to go. My buddy saw my Rocksmith and had to get it the next day so we went there and he got a really nice guitar.

If the Guitar that comes with it is $120 (80 for the game + 120) then you could get a decent guitar ready to go. I am sure most areas have a place like Music Go Round.

Good luck on your decisions. Just get playing.

Fender Bullet Strat is a nice inexpensive alternative and runs about $100 at most music stores. The guitar that is bundled I'm sure is fine for what it is but the difference between guitars per say a $100 and a $1000 has to do with what type of wood is used, quality of the hardware and where it is made. So, even a $100 guitar can improve with the change of strings, pickups, etc. But don't expect a change in sound quality within the game itself.

Thanks for all of the replies so far. I already own a beginner guitar (RB3 Squier) butt here are some issues with it when it comes to note sustains because (I think) of the plastic fret board.

The appeal of the Epi JR was that it was a true blue guitar with no fancy technology to make it work with the game so no weird things like with the Squier, but I have been turned off of it by some of the reviews I have read.

I think I am going to go for a Les Paul Special-II or the 100 since they are on sale at Amazon atm.

Still, would like to here some more opinions on the JR. Information is power and the more I have the more I can be sure in my decision.

I was pleasantly surprised after buying it on impulse; I was too excited when I got the go ahead from SWMBO to shop around as originally planned. I was also glad to research the next day to find that to get the guitar alone would be $150 locally and the bundle was a good deal.
I seemed to be retuning a little at first, but it has really stabilised. I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon.

I got the bundle. I like the guitar.. only problem is every guitar NEEDS to be taken to a guitar shop with a real guitar technician to be set up.. Gibson will not pay to have the set up done, you'll have to pay for it out of pocket. I took mine to a local shop in Niagara Falls, Ontario. they set the neck, set the bridge, new strings and charged me $25 for their troubles.. on the plus side, the guitar plays 1000x better than out of the box.

    i concur with niagaradood.

based on other low-end epiphones i've seen, it should be fine after a $50 setup by a GOOD guitar tech (talk to the actual tech, not the service counter, about what you want: intonation setup, ensure good ground/jack connectivity, ensure good truss rod adjustment, ensure good nut adjustment if necessary, ensure tuners are working well).

if all that was done, it might cost you $50-$75, but it'll be worth it.
