Thread: Why 1.03 has probably killed FC2 MP | Forums

  1. #1
The change that has probably killed this game off is that it appears you cannot set All Ready or Majority Ready in the dedi server.

What this means is that all games will become two-noob rounds, rather than having 8-16 oldtimers filling up every game. The oldtimers will bail this game rather than play a game of them plus two just-bought-this-game-today noobs who press Ready immediately and type GOGOGOGOGOGO GOG OG OG OGOGOOG GO.

Those guys will run the show.

Unless someone can hack the dedi to change this back to how it was or give some other option, it is over for sure.

I run a clan that is a very prolific mapping and playing clan, runs tourneys, etc., and I can say that we will fold if this is not changed.

    Work around:

rcon in and do something like:

    admin_setsetting minplayers 12

Later, if only 8 guys are sitting in there, you can force start with admin_setsetting minplayers 8

    --------------

Definite major worsening of the previous deal, but better than nothing.

I can't find how to enter any "local" rcon commands, only these remote ones.

I have just dug into the new server, as I just now got home from work. I could not agree more with kmcrobb. I host a 24/7 dedi as well as an in-game server every night as well as two additional servers on occasion. I will undoubtedly drop this game if we are at the mercy of go go goers, plain and simple. That was one of the most annoying things about MP: people getting into a 10 player map, with only 2 of them, and playing a round as soon as both of them have downloaded. That is selfish and rude as there are more than likely several more players tha would otherwise file in over the course of a few minutes.

So, without the ability to set waitready to ZERO, this game will suffer the loss of many hosts. We have already lost a good one that I knew well, and I'm sure he was not the only one. We cant afford to drop the experienced, good hosts, and the experienced, good players. We are the ones who explain how this game works to n00bs, we are the ones who put tons of time and effort into allowing the world to come and play on our rigs. We need to be able to control when the game starts and how many players are there. Ths especially goes for mappers who host and have a preferred player limit to their maps. (me i like full) Imagine two people running around in Castle of Dune. I mean, come on. I hope it is an overlooked setsetting function or something.

At the moment I am experimenting with creating the server files I need on my laptop, which is not updated, and seeing if can ad-stick them over to the server and do the exec server.cfg thing, and have it work. This may be a way to get the waitready to zero still, but you would have to have a machine that had the game and was not updated, or I guess you could write yor own cfg file if you knew exactly what was in it.

okay, you can put s/t like:

    SetSetting minplayers 8

in your dedicated_server.cfg and it will work.

So that´s not really problem. How about switching a map, kicking/banning without starting a vote? How can it be done?

You've spent so much time dealing with the work arounds, that you have forgotten what is REALLY needed, the ability to join a ranked match in progress.

Doesn't seem to be an issue with the Battlefield series...

Can't see the need for that Gully, but hey.

    HC mode seems great.

I can't see how to kick/ban from the console since I can't find any access TO the console locally. Otherwise those pb commands would no doubt still work.

Anyone know how to enter commands into the console locally at the server?

I think you actually have to enter the game, either locally or remotely. That means you have to have another copy of fc2 on whatever ou plan to use to remotely admin. This actually kind of ruins my RDC connection admining, because Id have to load up the game instead of taking a quick look while at work, or having a quick chat with the players.
