I have just replaced my Ti4600 with a FX 5900 Ultra. I am VERY satisfied thus far with the performance of it, but was wondering...since it is DX9 certified (the Ti4600 really wasn't) should I go ahead and DL it? I haven't had any issues and the game looks sweet (26fps avg in "perfect"...online!) I haven't needed DX9 for any of the programs I run but started having some sound issues over the weekend. (creative 5.1 platinum). It sounded like I was in a cafeteria or that EAX had gone bonkers.

Any suggestions on the sound thing are welcome...and opinions on DX9 as well.

Well the 5900 Ultra is a dx 9 card and is designed for dx 9 so you shouldnâ´t have any trouble with installing dx 9. If not for your video card but for your sound card since many games nowadays have started to use dx 9.

I should definiatly install it if I where you. There is a dx 9.0B on itâ´s way soon too.

Thx oeqvist. Just a little kick in the pants or a little reassurance as first impressions are hard to overcome. I'll put it in tonight and see what happens.

    Cheers

My god man how do you fly like that. Hell i got 26 fps with my old tnt 32mb card.
I currently use the Ti4600 and i get 70 just sitting in cockpit view. If i turn that off it jumps to 90. Looking straight up at nothing it goes to 135 to 158.

Somewhere along the line you need to do some tweaking.

May you not become a dirt torpedo.

Do you get 70 fps at 1600x1200x32 with anisotropic filtering? I ainâ´t got a 5900 ULTRA or even better a 9800 PRO but that is what I would like to get (26 fps or better) if I owned one

I have to be satisfied with like 55 fps with my 9700 PRO at 1280x960x32 with 4x aa and 16x anisotropic instead at excellent settings :P

Always use the latest version of directX, even if you have a card that doesn't support it.

For instance, I use a GF4ti4400 but have to have DX9.0 in order for the power saving function to work properly.

DX9.0 isn't just about the new graphics possibilities. There are minor things that require the latest version of DirectX for programs to run (even programs that don't use any of the advanced graphics capabilities of DX9.0

I got 26 fps in perfect at 1600x1200x32 with 4x AA and 4x AF and it was online!. If your Ti4600 will do that, then yours it is three times the card mine was.

Oh, and thx RBJ. That makes perfect sense.
