Thread: Rayman Origins "most overlooked game in 2011" | Forums

Gamasutra just released their top 5 of most overlooked games in 2011, and unsurprisingly Rayman Origins takes the first spot:

    Their, rather grim, conclusion:

In an era where every 2D game is downloadable, the game couldn't manage to move more than 50,000 units in its first month on the NPD charts. But this gorgeous tribute to 2D games is likely the last we're getting of this level of polish, so is absolutely worth your time.

Everyone else was playing Modern Warfare 3 or Skyrim, that's why.

It looks to me that the demand for games such as Rayman Origins is there. The problem is, how to get the potential players buy the game? Nintendo did it with Mario on the Wii so yeah.

Rayman Origins is a great game but i think the problem was its release date it came out with a lot of "good" games and it was competing with them

1: The consoles are nearing the end of this generation.

2: Raving rabbids wasn't developed for the 360 and PS3, and suffered from bad controls, reducing popularity.

3: The advertising was a bit lackluster. I first learned that there was a new Rayman game when I visited the mall, long after it's release.

4: The game is best know on the PlayStation and Wii, where it competes with Little Big Planet and Mario, respectively.

So let me get this straight, Ubisoft. You're going to release Rayman Origins in the same month as Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. You're going to release it on the same day as Saints Row: The Third, and just before Skyward Sword ...and you're telling us that its [censored] sales performance may be used as a measuring stick?
