Thread: Is there anyway to modify a "quick mission builder" mission? | Forums

  1. #1
Allot of times I just prefer to build a quick mission and focus on the core of the action - but these quick missions tend to be too quick. They usually start you off with about 30 seconds before reaching the target - hardley enough time to order the squadron into a new formation, situate yourself with the map and possibly change the attck waypoint, etc. Is there anyway to alter these quick missions so that you can start back at least two waypoints?

The quick answer is no. I believe the missions can be modified, butI'm not sure how. I am also not sure if they can be played in QMB once modified.

There are utilities that allow you to create missions without using the full FMB; you may want to check them out. I have never used them so I don't know the names offhand.

    Thanks Zeus -cat,
I thought maybe there was a way to somehow use the mission builder to somehow open the quick mission template and modify it. It seems obvious that the quick missions are using a template because regardless of the planes you chosse- theres only 12 scenarios ( 3 locations times 4 targets - airbase, bridge, armor,or none). I'm also a big fan of "B-17-The Mighty Eighth" by Microprose, and theres a configuration file that advanced users can open to adjust specific elements of the missions, planes, action, etc. Not the source code, but almost.I believe it was an .ini file.
I haven't seen an .ini file in FB, but it could be hidden in a sub folder somewhere. If one exsists and someone (or Ubi Soft) knows of how to modify specific settings, it would add modifications that even the mission builder doesn't offer - like allowing squadrons of 12 planes or changing the Moscow environment to green grass instead of always snow and ice (I'm sure in June it eventually thaws).
BTW, I'll download your missions. I've been to Mission4today but never saw your missions - they look good and must have been allot of work.
    Thanks

    Don-X,
That looks like the ticket. Thanks a million. I looked through the Sturmovik Essentials link page and probably saw it listed, but was probably looking for something that said "quick mission modifier" or similiar. I'll checkm it out.

As well as mission mate there's uberdemons UQMG (uber quick mission generator), similar to QMB but more options - larger numbers of planes, custom skins, skills, flight spacings, spawns et al. There is also Lowengrins DCGen which generates campaigns and single missions.

If Mission Mate or UQMG do what you're after, they are better than anything, but, just to answer your original question, yes, there is a way to get a Quick Mission into the Full Mission Builder and edit it. As Zeus-cat mentioned, however, it will no longer be a QM, but will be a Single Player or Coop.

    Here's the procedure:
    1. Set up and start your QM in the QMB
    2. Immediately hit escape...Quit Mission, then Save Track...give it a name, hit Save... then Done.
    3. Exit the game and navigate to the "Records" folder, and look for a .trk file with the name you gave it. The .trk file is actually a Single Mission file, with some additional info tacked onto the end of it.
    4. Change the extension of the track file from .trk to .mis, then move the file to a folder in either /Missions/Single for a single player mission, or /Missions/Net/coop for a coop mission.
    5. Start the game again and go to the Full Mission Builder. Load your new mission file from whichever location you placed it.

Now you can edit your single mission or coop mission as you would any similar mission, then replay it as a single or coop mission. If you wish to run it as a coop, you should uncheck the player box in the aircraft assigned as such.
