Ok here goes...

I am in the first part of age where you get your KI. I have found the rotating pillar that you have to wait patiently for a 'opening' to appear. Thing is I jumped into it and can see the gear room I need to go into, but I can't jump/run/walk out of the spining pillar to get to it. Is there some special way to it? Is it a bug?

Nevermind I got in. I just reloaded the game, must have been a glitch or something.

I figured that one out pretty quick.

This is how I did it(note: might not be the only way)

First you must find a way of getting power to the controls in the room.If you go over by the western most wall you will notice a grate on the floor. Stand on it. Notice what happens? The floor panels by the gear start to light up, so do the four levers by the conrol panel/machine thing. Also a pillar rises on the wall behind the grate. Wait until it's all the way to the top and run over to the first button on the control panel. It has a icon that looks like three towers or something next to it.Once you pull that run back to the grate that powers everything (note: It is very important that you are fast as possible or the pillar will drop and the machines will die out and you will have to start over again). Let it rise fully again. Now run over next to the gear resting in the floor and press the two foot pedals on the ground. Press them both, these release the gear so it can be raised. After this run back to the grate that powers everything and again let it rise fully. Now it's back to the control panel to pull down the second lever from the left. You should now see a cut scene depicting the raising of the gear. Congratulations, you have restored power, but we aren't done. Flip the other two switches on the control panel, these give powers to the blue doors and elevators. Good luck.

Yeah you are. Just put CapsLock on so you're in running mode. And you don't hafta press both foot pedals before returning to the pillar. Press one, return to the pillar, press another, return to the pillar, etc. Also stay in 3rd person because in 1st person it's hard to tell when you're close enough to the levers and pedals.

No, it is one of Yeesha's parting gifts in the single player version. After finishing the game, go to the closet in the hut, click on upper body part and it should be there.
