I'd like to put a "formal" petition down against Ubisoft regarding their DRM. We've had to agree to their draconian rules in order to play their game- however Ubisoft haven't given a single thought to what happens when their servers screw up. The result? Their lack of preparation leaves a huge number of players unable to play their games. It's unprofessional and irresponsible to have left such a gaping hole in the system. If you feel you've been unfairly handled during this ACII incident please, read the petition and provide a reply in some form of signature. Even if it's just a "I agree".
Under the "Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations (UTCCRs)," we stand to claim that you, Ubisoft have violated our consumer rights by imposing restrictions beyond that of reason.
Your current DRM regime requires that all customers have a working internet connection to use Assassin's Creed II on the PC. However, in the case that you fail to provide customers with this DRM service no alternative has been given.
This petition argues that the denial of service to your product by a failure of your authentication service is unacceptable. The nature of your product is not an online one; there is no need for an online connection besides continually "authenticating" the actions of your customers.
Given this, a failure to produce working authentication servers should have been met with an alternative solution for access to the product.
We demand that you, Ubisoft, provide consumers with an alternative means of authentication in the event that you cannot conduct your DRM online. Furthermore we demand that you compensate those that have been unfairly prevented from accessing their products due to your failure.
