Hey,
Ive read a lot of stuff about the numerous Settlers 3 problems.
It seems a lot of people talk about different things here.
Personally Im trying to play Settlers 3 Gold Edition.
The install worked, when I tried to start the game it showed an error.
So far everything is normal.
Warning shown: "Kernel32 call does not point into KERNEL32.dll. Virus or incompatible Systemanalyzer detected!. (#3000)"
The version my CD installs is 1.57.
So I went to the official Settlers 3 site and tried to install the patch that is meant for version 1.50 and later to update to 1.60.
Im not sure but I think this is patch s3new1.60.
Then a new warning comes up, this time in Dutch so Ill try to translate; "This program cant be started because PATCHW32.dll cant be found. Reinstalling the program could solve this problem."
I did not reinstall because I knew this would probably not help one bit.
Anyway here I am trying to make my Gold Edition work on my XP PC and I dont have a clue TBH.
I heard some stuff about a converter etc but well if someone could point out what I should do thatd be nice.
Btw Im trying to make this work because in a month or so me and my clan have a meeting and I suggested wed play Settlers 3, so Im mainly trying to get it to work for LAN.
Also one of us has Vista, I thought that 'compatibility' with XP would probably work but untill I get XP to work I dont know of course.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
Some info about my system:
Windows XP SP 2
Direct X 9.0C
If anybody can help me that would be really appreciated.
ps: I also have the normal Settlers 3 CDs and the Mission CD, though the Mission CD seems to be German (never opened it or used it) and the others are English versions
Theyre all original version bought in the store.

Well I got it to work now.
After the Gold installation I unzipped the XP patch and replaced all the files.
Then I ran the converter and I did a reboot.
Now it seems to work, the turorial worked and going on internet as well.
Just the movie in the beginning doesnt and I think the mission movies probably wont work either but oh well, its about the gaming mainly
.
My friend has Vista but he got the normal version (so not Gold edition).
He got it to work as well but when he selected 'LAN' he got an error message saying he should select a server first (???).
So we tried to play on the internet.
He could see my game and I could see his but he couldnt join me because he "didnt have QOTA".
Which is sheer nonsense because my readme from my installation says that fix 1.51 ensured that people who didnt buy QOTA could also play with QOTA players on the internet.
So if anybody can fill me in on this one please?
Then I tried to join his game and it said 'not connected', then after 20 seconds 'connecting' and then after 15 seconds or so 'not connected' again.
I tried to join other games from other people but every time the same problem.....
Please someone help me out here, thanks in advance.

Do you have a firewall enabled or anything that you need to give permissions to in order for you to play.
I think you are interpreting the readme file wrongly, the 2 of you can play together fine, but he cant join a Qota game that you make,as he doesnt have it installed. The same goes for all Settlers games you need that specific Add on to let you play those maps with others who have it.
All you have to do is make none Qota games.

Well my firewall is off but I do have a router.
I read the topic with the router problems but the problem is I dont know how to forward ports or anything like that.
Though a friend of mine might help me soon with it.
Thank you for clearing that QOTA thing up.
So basically the one who does not have QOTA shoud always host the game?
Or is there a way that I can host a none QOTA game as well with Gold Edition?
Also, do you know how it is possible that when my friends selects 'LAN' he gets a message stating he should select a server first?
When I select 'LAN' I get a new screen and not an error message.

Either of you can create the game, you must make sure that Amazons isnt highlighted in the bottom right corner
The error message he is getting is because,he needs to click the words Internet TCP/IP connection for Direct Play,in the box under Type of Network
