Thread: Major IL2 problem | Forums

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

This is the first time that I have ever encountered a problem like this in IL2. I only noticed this since last night but I have been playing IL2 since 2001.

The issue that I am having is that some servers I join the game encounteres an error and closes. This is right when the server is loading the map. This also happens in random servers so I am clueless ??

I also noticed that my game says it cannot load the Smolensk quick mission map and one of the multiplayer maps. After this, I also notice the planes in the Plane settings are gone and the only thing I see is the canopy.

Like I said before this has never happened before. The only thing to change in the past year and a half in my motherboard and cpu but I doubt it can cause problems like this ?

I also tested my other games I have currently installed and there is no issue, its just IL2 1946.

    I'd appreciate any help ASAP.

    My current system specifications are:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    AsRock 775Dual 4Core
    1.5GB Generic Ram
    BFG 7800GS

All drivers are up to date and the only two things to change since I have flown is the motherboard and cpu.

    Sounds like memory troubles.

Reading a map is rather 'memory intensive'.

    1.5GB Generic Ram
Combining memory modules of different size might be the cause here.

Can you try running it with 1.0GB?

It could be memory trouble but its not consistent with your typical RAM issues. If that were the case then you should see a pattern where small maps or maps with very little activity on them would probably load fine but other maps would not...and then you should see some sort of memory addressing error.

This sounds a little more like installation files are corrupted. Especially if its always the same maps/planes/aircraft. Software solutions are almost always easier (and cheaper ) than hardware so my suggestion would be to maybe wipe IL-2 out (uninstall and then go in manually and remove any last traces...if you want to save your skins and whatnot then copy those directories elsewhere) and reinstall the game. Test it and then patch it and see if it still happens.

Not using Teamspeak Overlay are you?

This is something that occurs with TSO and nVidia cards, usually only happens online 'cos we don't need Team Speak to talk to ourselves.

I dropped TSO in favor of the older TSDisp because of similar issues.

Thank you for the replies everyone.

I do not believe it to be a memory problem as I am having no problems in any other applications I use. I've also used this ram with IL2 for atleast four years with no problems.

I am using Teamspeak overlay. I did a test with it enabled and disabled while joining War Clouds WF server and it let me in both times with no issues. However, when I joined my IL2 unit's online war servers, I got the "This program needs to close error". I'll try keeping it off the next time I go into a server and see if it has any effect. I have had Teamspeak overlay with my video card for over a year with no noticable issues, prehaps its the new drivers ?

    Thanks again for your help.

TSO will do that and not with all drivers or all the time.

Had me pulling my hair out, but the big clue was it only occurred online or just after when TSO was running.

    Being random doesn't help either.

Teamspeak Display is good, and I have no problems with that.

Alright, that fits Monday and Tuesday's criteria for Teamspeak Organizer. I had just got home from work and logged on with 5-10 minutes of when I needed to fly.

Is Teamspeak display like Teamspeak organizer ? And are there any errors similar to mine reported with it ?

    Thanks.

I uninstalled Teamspeak organizer and tried the Smolensk quick mission map again and it loaded properly this time.

I also was able to participate in an online mission with no noticeble problems.

I have one more mission tonight to test, and after that, I'll post back with the ending results.

Thanks for your help everyone, much appreciated.
