Thread: How to listen to Gramophone WITHOUT in game music? | Forums

  1. #1
I love all these vintage songs... but it really sucks that when I turn off the Gramophone, the lame in-game music plays.

If I turn off in-game music, I get no Gramophone either.

Has anyone found a hack to get JUST the gramophone to play?

I tried renaming the "music" folder to "music_bak" but then the game crashes when I start a mission.

well, i had the same problem. it seems the game will always play the default song initially..
what u need to do is put all your mp3 files in the gramaphone subdirectory in the sounds directory
if u wish, u can remove the mp3 file thats allready there, this will rid of the default music file.. but u can still keeep it, anyway, in order to listen to your mp3 files, u'll need to tell your radio operator to play the next song etc. u'll need to have the music option on for this...
    i hope this helps

The problem is, sometimes I want to turn the gramophone off.

If I do this, the normal music starts playing again. I don't want it to do this.

that is strange.. when i press the stop button, the music stops.. must be a game bug specific to sound cards perhaps? sorry i can't help u on that one
i'm sure the dev team will find fixes for it, the first patch came on quick and no doubt the second will also

Yes!! This is a problem. I have placed my vintage music in the gramophone folder and deleted the one in there. But, the game will play theme music in game all the time if the MUSIC is checked. If I turn on the grammophone, I get my music...if I want no music at all...I have to turn everything off in the options panel which means no grammophone.

Im not saying this right...and the first poster said it correctly. I want to play my music while being able to turn the MUSIC option off in the OPTIONS / AUDIO settings. Can this be done? Is there a workaround!?!?!?!?!

hmmm ok, try this.. move all the .ogg files from your music folder to a temporary folder.. this should eliminate any music files from the game and leave u with only your mp3 files in the gramaphone folder...

I just made a quick fix for this because it was annoying me as well!

!!Warning: Before doing ANYTHING make sure you back up the file "\SilentHunterIII\data\Sound\Music\music.cfg"! !

I havent tested this out much other than running it once...but it's a really small change so it shouldnt cause any problems...if it does you have that backup..well I hope you do

ok now that thats out of the way,
How to install: Download this and extract to your "\SilentHunterIII\data\Sound\Music\" folder, after you have made that back up of course!

Anyway maybe there is a better way, but all I did was make a .ogg that was silent and changed the music.cfg around.

    Enjoy!

I think I'm going to add a blank music track so I can turn on/off the music at will by playing the gramaphone.

Ya I was thinking about that as well but if you want it to loop forever that has to be your only song in the list. Also you can't play the gramophone while running silent.
