Thread: Your favorite moments/Stunts in the Driver Series | Forums

  1. #1
Rather than post these ideas in random threads, here's hoping others have some favorite moments they'd like to share with Reflections: So if you can think of one, list your favorite moment from a mission, or favorite stunt you like to try in any Driver game, and some stunts you'd like to try in DSF.
    --------------------

    FAVORITE STUNT: Driver 3
    Location: Nice
TYpe of Stunt: Flying off huge cliff into ocean
Hang time: 5 seconds or so

I'd start facing uphill just before the right hand corner in NICE, on a bike or in a car, then speed around the right corner on that hill near the stunt track, then fly off the edge at the highest point at full speed, avoiding traffic and flying through the air over some buildings, cliffs and finally jumping out just before the car smashed into the ocean near the shore. Anybody else try that? That was my favorite stunt in D3.

I really loved the cliffs and ramps in the Driver series. They bring back so many memories, especially from D1 and D2, with locations like Havana and San Francisco, which had some really intense hills and ramps. While I didn't own D3 before, my cousin and I had a blast with it and with getting our cars to fly into the air. Sadly, DPL didn't have as many great moments, and it felt a lot less like its predecessors.

I'd probably say my favourite kind of driving is successfully avoiding all of the above, even under intense pressure, but I guess handbrake stunts and maneuvers covers it, so that.

Happily enoguh I don't have one particular event that rose above all others and couldn't be replicated, but one of my favourite things to do was in san fran survival- I'd trick the cop cars into launching off a hill I was hiding just beyond, usually destroying their cars in the process, over and over again.

Then again there was that one time playing D3 where I was playing the mission where you have to drive the semi+trailer at night through Nice. I decided on a whim to try a... different escape route, and launched myself off a high cliff road. I landed in a narrow alley just before a stone archway, and while the cab made it through fine, the trailer was already so all over the place that it bounced like something possessed as I dragged it through the tiny archway with my momentum. Once it got through it flung itself and the whole semi with it out to sea. Somehow a single cop car managed to hurl itself down onto the beach, too.
What the next DRIVER needs: Tighter, narrower streets for slower, more responsive cars as seen in D1,2,3. More 70s feel, possibly the entire game's setting. Keep 88mph top speed as the norm, with only bonus supercars going beyond. Get rid of Burnout as the default acceleration. Unlicensed Vehicles- so that they can be destroyed with explosions. On foot returning, with a version of shift as an unlockable. Weapons, with FPS controls like D3, only more polished. Hubcaps. Car underside pouncing. Offroad areas without invisible walls. All previous driver game cheats return plus a few surprises. All camera angles in D1 Film Director returning. Completely overhauled multiplayer, with virtually no 'boosting'. Finally, ability to play multiplayer offline, and with bots.

Failing that, D1 and 2 as fully emulated games unlockable within Driver 6.

When I used to play Driver 2 (which I played every day) me and my brother would go to the same place almost everytime in Havana.

Start near the church, go on the left, turn the 90 degree corner, follow the road until you reach a point where the road goes downhill. Turn left again, and continue al the way to the tunnel and from there, continue forward on until you reach a place called Verdado or something similar.

In there, you'll find a parking space with an uphill road leading to an open space where you can jump all the way and sometimes end up in the sea, (but we used to get out of the car immediately after we jump). Those stunts are memorable because there were countless times where I landed on another vehicle and it was countless hours of pure fun and was never boring.

As you may have noticed, I memorized the route I used to take aswell

One of the things that initially drew me to the Driver series was the car damage (also free roam), so I'm gonna have to go with crashing and flipping, though I do like a well executed handbrake turn

One of my most memorable moments with D3 was a tiny alleyway chase in free roam. I had never actually explored that area of town, and while running from the cops I found this alleyway just big enough for a car, and everytime I'd come out to the street I'd see it continue and drive down it. Surprisingly, I only hit one thing the whole time I was driving through there, it was awesome. I of course proceeded to NOT make a replay, damnit.
DRIVER 6 - my wishlist - Unlicensed Vehicles, Real-Time Car Damage, Car Flipping and Roll-Overs, On Foot AND Shift, Guns, No Invisible Walls, Able to drive of cliffs, jump fences etc, Performance Upgrades, Car Creator basic example, Set up Ramps and Stunts in shift mode, Reduce Framerate to 30fps and add back all the stuff you had to take out, Please and Thank You!!!

    Driver 1:
Yes, I remember stopping just before the top of the hill behind as the cops flew over the edge in SF, they were moving so fast.
That's one reason choosing San Francisco for DSF was a smart decision. Plenty of ramp, jump opportunities and chances to crash on landing.

    Driver 2:
Finding that little Yugo car in Havana was memorable too. You had to descend into that hidden underground maze. The stadium car was another one I still remember discovering. I wanted the yellow and black car in Driver 1, but they took it out of the game before release for some reason. It was only in the trailer.

    Driver: Parallel Lines
Weaving through thick traffic with a sportbike. You can fly through too, by staying right in the middle as the cops fight the traffic.

Driver 2: Havana, that freeway that curves around near the ocean, and then leads to that statue with the ramp going up that tan brick monument. That was a great place to launch off from as the cops pursued, but you had to hit it just right, then go flying through the air. I think this may be where Assassin_Hunter is referring to?

Driver 1: Losing the cops by driving through that Miami enclosed parking building just before the freeway starts. Hitting those sand piles was fun.

DPL: Some awesome ramp hills in Central Park. Landing with the bike is a challenge, the car lands on all four most of the time, but the crashes/flipping of the cars weren't as long or action packed as in D2, D3, D1.

^It was close to where I was referring to. My place was a parking lot sort of that had an open space and a ramp leading to the top. It wasn't really high above the ground, but it was perfect for landing on vehicles and sometimes in the water.

I don't actually remember the cars flipping much in D1, 2, or PL, which is why Driv3r is the best for crash physics, it looks much more interesting for the car to cartwheel violently, even unrealistically long. Driver 1 was annoying because if you start to flip over, its game over, the car goes onto its top and stays there. D2 seemed to let you control the roll by steering moreso, especially noticable in a bus

This is a good thread idea, it gives developers a window into the good aspects of the games that they probably hear more complaints about, and also, who doesn't like memory lane?

    Driver 1 Fond Memories:
Plowing into cop cars that are on their sides, sending them flying! Stilts cheat! Infinite Mass Mode! Railroad Cops!

    Driver 2
Finding the secret cars was a blast! I would waste hours trying to go to buildings and see if a door would open!

Ramming cars while on their sides was always fun, agreed. I'd like lining a car up next to a wall, backing up, then full speed smash them sideways into the building. They'd hit so hard the car would disappear into the building.

Smashing through all the junk in the alleys is always fun.

    D2: Hidden Cars
If they kept an option that allowed you to randomly reset the hidden cars in a new location when you wanted a new challenge, that'd increase the replay value.

Driv3r: I always liked when you were on foot in 3rd person view, then just as you are entering a vehicle, press FPV and you can see the dashboard of the vehicles. Finally, DSF delivers on that wish I had years ago: Play while in Dashboard view.

    Driver 1: Bridge Water Ramp
The tiny water bridge ramp in Miami near the suburbs allows for some of the best jumps in the game I'd say. I'd have cops on my tail, then hit the bridge ramp and vault over, hoping to land on all fours while the cops flew over. Kept doing that till they crashed. Then race away.

I can't believe this, but I have ,managed to find a video of someone actually performing a jump from the place I worte about yesterday.

    Look here
    Click

Slightly after the 3 minute mark, he goes for the jump. As you can see, there's lots of open space to jump from and if you have enough speed, you can go over all the way to the sea. And if you choose to jump like n the video, you MAY land on a another vehicle. The best was those small mini busses, the gold ones. Those were fast enough to jump, but had the weight to destroy other vehicles.

Man, the memories I have with driver is uncomparable. I hope DSF will deliver the same memories.
