I never play online xD i use to play hotseat and offlineor maybe LAN with my family, but online sometimes is a pain

Same here. I play SP and hotseat with my friends. Occasionally there is a LAN party.

in the beginning i liked the battles with the predifined heroes. i don't like to play maps with other players but i liked a quick battle now and then

A TON of HotSeat and a bit of fooling around in campaign.

Yep. HOTSEAT is the most fun in these game thats why this game also need RANDOM MAP generator. I am playing hotseat with friend from HoMM3 almost every week.
Singleplayer Campain or Random map or Created maps were second but way behind hotseat.
The biggest problem of Online and Hotseat is waiting for other players to finish. The most waiting time is actually AI computers who are very dumb and takes up to 15min of waiting. And on your turn you just need to pres end turn and there it goes another 15min wait.
No one has time for 8+ hours on online game specially if you cant save and it would be difficult to continue with random player.
So again Hotseat with good random map generator!!
Random map generator should have nice templates to choose from we specially loved dragon pass template where every one have their own land and its own borders...
Well i played a few direct battles with people. That was fun, otherwise, not so much. I think it's the whole waiting for the opponent part that might cause the trouble.

The best part about the online portion is that it was not mandatory
Never played HOMM online, and never will, i've played a lot of solo vs. the A.I, I used to play hotseat and i've played some LAN.
I know i'm repeating myself with my pro single player mode tirade, but repetition is a useful tool, and I want it to be known that there are still people who buy and play heroes solely for the single player.
I've been playing heroes since H2 and while I loved Hotseats I was mostly a Solo player ... very recently though I began to give duel mode a try in H5 and I have to say I's pretty good fun.
The only criticism I have about it is the time it takes to find a duel partner.. maybe its just my timezone but doesn't seem like many people use it.
