Thread: Settlers 7: Graphic Anomalies | Forums

  1. #1
I'm posting in hopes someone else has similar problem and has found a solution. Fairly often while playing the graphics of trees/buildings begin to flicker white like the textures were turned on and off, I am usually forced to alt-tab out of the game and tab back in to fix it. While this flickering occurs my game-play is slowed.

I am on a brand new PC I made about a week ago, and I experience no problems in any other game I play on Extreme settings.

    Thanks for any help

I get that too. Or similar anyway. Sometimes is buildings, sometimes like rays of sunlight, sometimes whole segment of screen. Luckily only last a minute or two then stops. Don't think it happens more than once a day.

I think its this stupid Windows 7. I just got a new computer. NEVER happened in XP. I got the same graphics card, same ISP as before. Only operating system is different.

    I hate Windows 7!

    Nice PC.

Firstly update your graphics drivers with the latest ones for your manufacturer. Secondly update Windows 7.

Then try with application RivaTuner. In its utility, called D3DOverrider, make profile for Settlers7R.exe file (usually in folder c:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\The Settlers 7 - Paths to a Kingdom\Data\Base\_Dbg\Bin\Release\):

    Start With Windows = ON
    Application detection level = Medium
    Force triple buffering = ON
    Force VSync = ON

Disable UAC if you dont wanna get bothered with D3D each time you start OS.

Now you will also have VSync and hopefully your flickering will be gone.
    Ave.

I went searching for RivaTuner and found a thread on a techie forum that suggested RivaTuner is not so friendly for Windows 7 and a bit dated and suggested to use EVGA Precision. So because I don't know what I'm doing I did what it said. So EVGA precision is running, I don't know if I need to do anything to it. I haven't started up the game yet with it - I will right now.

    OK, so I got:
    - EVGA Precision v2.0.3
    - EVGA On-screen Display server v4.2.0 (which says RivaTuner statistics server technology).

In the ODs I added Settlers 7 to the application profiles and set:
    Start with windows = ON
    Application detection level = medium.

I can't see where to force triple buffering or VSynch.

Reading through EVGA forum apparently Precision does not have ability to force VSynch/triple buffering.

    So back to square 1.

Uninstalled EVGA Precision, downloaded RivaTuner 2.24c (newest version I could find).

I get a warning: has not been tested with currently installed display driver. Oh, I'll take a chance.

    Set:
    Start With Windows = ON
    Application detection level = Medium
    Force triple buffering = ON
    Force VSync = ON

Going to test it. Wish me luck.

I have the same problem with the graphics, that riva tunes is not an option. The problem is caused AFTER several updates from Ubisoft for this game. Because when I bought the game everything worked fine. I always use the latest drivers, but even when installing OLDER drivers again the graphics still start to flicker after a while and finally the game freezes.
So Ubisoft please check your updates and let us be able to play the game again!!

I installed the RivaTuner. Interesting application, but over my head. It did not make any difference to the flashing.

But installing the old drivers for my nVidia card, that fixed it. Been good for over a week now.

My card is a GeForce 9500 GT. Had the 275.33, went back to 270.61. Now I see a new driver - 280.26. Do I dare to try it?

This is a long topic in the tech support forum. No post from Ubi. It seems the best fix is to roll back drivers. Been months though, and seems to have started with 1.12.

Ubi does not seem to be concerned about the frustration of players.

I am waiting to buy DLC 3 (I have the others), and a vote with my pocketbook kind of attitude.
