Hi,
I'm going to go on a little rant here so please bear with me. My first sim experience was on the old Timex-Sinclair ZX-70 back in 1980 and since then I've played just about every sim out there.
To make a long story boring, I tried to get LOMAC to work for over five hours last night. It's patched to ver 1.02. Granted, the manual sucks but the following happens all the time:
-Unable to get target lock or lock next target to work more than once in a row.
-When using the Aim-7 or AIM-9, the targeting reticle is intermittent even when the target is locked.
-Firing guns on any aircraft with the joystick trigger results in one long burst until the gun is empty. I have to remap the trigger to another button to fix it.
-When firing Mavericks with a good lock, only 1 out of ten shots actually tracks properly even after I increase the missile effectiveness slider.
-When fighting air-to-air when using the easy radar mode (thought it might work at least), the radar range scale decreases as the targets get closer but then it's impossible to increase the range.
-The only targeting function that works consistently is the one that targets the enemy closest to the center of my HUD but even then the weapons rarely lock.
-Afterburners engage at will, even when I'm at idle.
There are lots more but you get the idea.
I suspected it might be my joystick (Wingman Etreme 3D) but the problems particularly with targeting occur even when I use the keyboard commands. Apart from wearing out too quickly when I play handle twist intensive games and generally needing frequent recalibration, it's stable with all my other sims.
For all that the sound and graphics work properly. The game looks and sounds great but it's still unplayable.
If anyone can suggest anything, great, otherwise I'm goin' skeet shootin'! For the life of me I've never encountered such a buggy product, except maybe Jetfighter V.
Thanks,
Sillius_Sodus
P.S. Since I first posted this, I see that I am not the only one with these types of problems. I'm still open to suggestions though.
