Thread: OT-GFX cards what to buy? | Forums

  1. #1
Hi, this is way off topic I am getting a new system and im looking for a new graphics card, I want to go for the Geforce ones as I already have the 6800GT and never had a problem with it for games or breaking down .

The system im getting is aprox AMD dualcore 6 GHz with 4 gig of ram.
I have seen loads of GFX cards and there are too many out there lol.
Can some one reconmend a good geforce card? I an on a limited budget for a card and dont require a top end one.
I would like one thats good value for money and runs new games maxed out on settings, my screen res I use is always 1280 x 1024 pixels. My brother has the Gforce 8600gt with builtin 256mb ram, I would lke someting a little better I was loking at the 9 series types with around 500 to 1 gig of card ram, but cant decide on the best type to get.
    Thanks for any help .

We don't mind OT threads here, we actually encourage them(Whether it be technical or personal).

I would suggest asking Messervy or Bunkerratt.

6GHz with 4 gigs of ram huh ? I'm jealous. Compared to mine, that's like almost 4 hd's.

I would suggest you post this question in the Hardware Thread

A lot of system builders are here and your question would probably reach a greater audience there.

If you could give an idea of budget, and what the spec is of your new system is going to be - that will help a lot.

I used to have a 6600GT, which I upgraded to from a 5700LE. From there I moved to a 7900GT and now have an 8800GTS 640mb. Whatever you get I can assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised off the back of a 6800GT! - A great card in it's prime but somewhat lacking these days, the same with most older cards.

The 9 series cards are much like any other Nividia series, some are OK, some are not worth it, and some are great cards.

Stick around, we'll sort you out!

Thanks 4 replies, il post on that thread.
I cant give a full spec on the system as of yet, as still in the planning stage .
Basic info is AMD type dualcore about 6GHz,4gig ram, and gfx card, all the other items are from PC im using now to keep costs down
I had a look at DELL systems and closest type match they want £3,500 for it, my custom built will cost £350 without the unnessasary bits and bobs lol.
I have about £150 to play with for a gfx card,
one forum I went on said the 9800GTX+, that comes on budget, just need some more input .
    Thanks
