Thread: SILENT HUNTER 4 Graphic Problem | Forums

  1. #1
    I just purchased SH4.
    MY PC IS:
    BFG7800GTX 256MB PCIE
    2GB DDR RAM
    200GB SATA HD
    3500+ AMD 64BIT
    OS WINXP

The problem, I am running the game on high and even when I turn it down low the men on my boat "AI" are ok one minute then appear flat the next. Flat like a pancake. The color of them and every thing is normal their just flat/thin. Any ideas???

One idea would be to check out the 50 other threads that people are raving mad over the graphics issues...

    Or do a search

Suffice to say, your questions are already well known and answered (at least the best we can at this point in time)

Hello, I have recently purchased SH4 and everything is ok, besides a little lag and the fact that i try to look out side my sub and everythig turns to out of place digital specs.
This has happened every time i tried to play it. it has happened in the turtorial, in the campaign and in the quick mission.
My computor is up to the task, but i would like a simple solution.
I have tried moving my screen resolution and other graphic setting to other spots. There are no scratches on the disc as far i know.
    Please help.

    Hello rookie145,

    Have you updated Directx 9.0c.

What version of SH4 do you have.
Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific or
Silent Hunter U-boat Missions (gold edition)

    What are your computer specs.

    I have SH4 U-Boat gold edition,
I have updated my DirectX 9.0c,
I think i may know what the problem is, I have a Win-7 and my graphic driver may not be up to the task to play this game. This has happened to some other games i have, for instance SH5 and a little lag in Company of Heroes.
SH5 would not install because of my Graphic driver.
anyways can anyone help with my problem?

Do you have a laptop or a desk top.

What graphic card do you have.

    Hi, Yooper.

I think he is the same guy which I was trying to guide before, regarding SH5 ? His PC specs, if he has not changed, are listed here under this thread:

    @rookie145,

Are you using the same PC as before, and do you still have the following onboard MOBO's Graphics Processor i.e. NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 ?

This may cause a problem, or some Lag with SH4, Imo. But I'm Not fully sure, because I've not tested SH4, and I don't know how much 'Graphic demanding' SH4 is.......

Btw, have you tried playing SH4 under 'Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode', if needed ? Just see if doing this gives any in-Game performance difference ?

Minimum Requirements for Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific. Hope this same applies to SH4 U-Boat gold edition as well ?:

Yeah its me, I had problems with SH5 and now SH4. I guess the simulation games are't ment for me.
Yes i have been using the same PC as before, I thought SH4 might have worked because its a little less demanding in graphics.
No I have not tried to run under Win XP SP2, just between me and everyone reading this, I don't know how to work a computor well. Still need help with any possible solutions.
P.S. I might just stick with RTS games, since they work on my computor.

Alright, to play SH4 under XP mode do the following. First make a shortcut of the Game's EXE, e.g. Sh4.exe.....

    Just an example:

To run any program in Compatibility Mode under Windows 7, Right click on the program's shortcut (e.g. SH4.exe), and then click on Properties. Then click on the Compatibility tab. Check the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' box.

From the drop down menu arrow select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'. Also check the 'Run this program as an administrator box', to change the Privilege Level of that Program. After that click on the OK button....

But when you do the above, also look here under the Compatibility TAB, and check and tick these 2 options 'Disable Desktop Composition', and 'Disable Visual themes'. Now click on this .exe and run the Game.

*Just see if doing all the above helps overcome some in-game Lag/stutter ?*

But, if you still face a lag with SH4/5, then try to upgrade your current Video card, and also do a FRESH and a clean Format of your Win 7 OS. After that re-install and update drivers, and ALL essential packages for your OS.

Your current onboard MOBO's Graphics Processor i.e. NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, can create a Bottleneck with some of the new PC games, unless you play the Game on LOW Screen Resolution, and lower in-game Graphic settings, IMO.
