Thread: What a luck! The whole japanese fleet... Just need to choose | Forums

    Hi everybody,
on my second patrol I've been asked to deploy out of the Philippines (I'm based in Manila 1941 during the Jap offensive, just bataan if left... by now).
By exiting the bay I've spotted what it looks to be the entire Japanese Fleet! Three battleships Yamato and Fuso class, numerous other heavy and light cruisers and destroyer. I started my attack run... with high realism setting (unfortunatley I cannot use the manual computing mechanism cause I'm not able to understand how to estimate speed, see my other post on community help "speed estimation" please). Two days after, I've spotted another (bigger if possible) military convoy: 4 carrier, Yamato and Kongo battleships, heavy and light cruiser (maya class etc), lots of destroyer and some tanker two... I started my attack run again.

Result of my second patrol is, by now, 158.892 tons sunk. Read: 1 yamato btls, 1 fuso btls, 1 hiryu carrier, 1 shokaku, 2 destroyer. My be I can shot some photo...

Am I lucky or it is so frequent to find big convoy like this in the game??? Or it is realistic due to the particular phase (1941)?

Anyway, I've not fulfilled my objective... cause I was asked to engage and sunk merchant shipping!!! Comsubpac guys are really thankless...

Well, having ended torpedo I go back home, but Manila has fallen for I cannot dock. I have to go Surebaia. Once I've got there I ask for resupply to fulfill my objective. They give me fuel and guns weapon but no more torpedo!!! I have to sink the minimun tonnage allowed to fullfil merchant shipping sunk objective just by hit jap with deck gun!!!

    Anyway it has gone...

    Regards!

    Sounds like a submarine heaven.
As long as the destroyers don't come for you. :P

    3 yamato ??
Simply not possible historically speaking. Only 2 battleships of that class were built, the yamato was commissioned in late 41 (dec 15) and the Musashi in 1942 (aug 5). The third hull was converted into the giant aircraft carrier IJN Shinano (I want her !!! ) commissioned in oct 44 !!

Shame that they did not respect at least the availability of the different ships of the Jap Navy...

To be honest both convoy were well escorted. But I've notice that if you set speed to 2 knots 20-30 meters underwater in "silent running" mode they do not find you. I've sunk 2 destroyer too...

Yes I know! I was intending "three battleship: Yamato (2) + Fuso class..."

To be honest I expected too that developers were more historically precise... It has been a surprise to spot Yamato and Musashi on Dec 1941!
