Thread: The Story of Battle Group 4's Saber Squad | Forums

When I started this war, I was fighting for the Motherland. I was enthralled by the Spetznaz ability to use such outdated equipment with accuracy and lethality. I was truly at home in the open battlefield.

I have always enforced that Combat Engineers, when defended by Riflemen, could hold out against an entire battalion with some support. In Russia, we are told not to get attached to our units-For they are expendable tools of war. I followed this, but always treated my soldiers to a party in the Barracks after a victory.

But then, I was told to deploy to a metropolitan area against European forces...I was devastated. My sluggish vehicles, though armored to the core and strapped with extra guns, were so easily eradicated; like shotting Vodka bottles a foot away. My Infantry was truly shining that day. I eventually lost, but I made those bastards pay with all four of their battalions. I was defeated nonetheless, and I, believing in diplomacy in these gruesome times, personally congratulated each of the four other Colonels there that day. The response...was soulshattering.

They admired my use of tactics and deployment, telling me that I was the toughest and most brutal Spetznaz Brigade Officer they had seen...and offered me a place at their HQ. I accepted..but if the Motherland wins this conflict, I will be made an example of. My superior and I had many fights over battle philosophy, but the EFEC accepted mine. They told me that any commander with the ability to turn an offensive force into a mobile defensive brigade was worthy of their ranks-I called them liars, for using a bottleneck and flanking are not the most brilliant or subtle of tactics. I felt inferior to the minds that had beaten me, but they still gave me command over the Battle Group 4 Airborne Assault Battalion.

Immediately I spent the million credits granted to me by EFEC on my new squads. They were all weary of me, I understood. I had sent legions to kill their countrymen, their brethren....but I was once again surprised by the humility of Europeans. A member of Saber unit spit on me, looking at me with a cold stare....I rose to speak.

"I know that you all will hate me. I do not wonder the reason. But seeing the ebst of your military minds ina ction has made me realise that it is possible to create bonds in a military situation, and prevail. That it is possible to fight not as individuals, but as fellow countrymen. I don't ask acceptance of any of you, but only that you shall follow my battlefield commands and that I may sleep at night without worrying about my own life. The European Federation has offered me a new life, away from the broken hearts and souls of the Spetznaz Brigade. I know you see thema s monsters, but they had families too. Their wives and sons weep and wish for peace, as does everyone on this Earth. This war shall be long and bloody, but remember that you are still fighting people, not animals...The Squad leader of my best Infantry unit had a sonnamed Dimitri. Dimitri watched his father as he grew, and was unnaturally gifted in the ways of strategy. Russian High Command would have eaten him up. As protocol I read the outgoing and incomming mail of my men. Dimitr's father had said, 'Dimitri, please, for the sake of your own fate, stay away from war. No matter how good you may be at it, how cunnign you are, it will break you. You will not realise it until you've already been damned. The SGB is seen as cruel and brutal animals, but it is more accurate to say we have seen the true face of humanity at it's precebus. We are not animals, but all people when fighting for their survival are. The only death that can come to a warrior is to be felled in battle, before his time. After seeing what mankind can do to each other without fear or regret has made me want to fight, as hard and long as I can, so that the day that I meet my end is brought swiftly. There's no justice in reality, no peace in existence. Stay away from war, or war will break you.'

I had read this after my final fight as a Russian commander. It was then that I knew my place was not there, for he was right. War destroys the mind and the soul, and tose who fight in it are forever damned to always see the nightmare of the truth of it. The motherland exists on war. Since there could enver be any peace between people for even a century, we, as humanity, should at least strive for unity-not madness. Or our own blood and madnes will drown this Earth. So I ask of you all to obey my orders on the field, and work together, so that the European Federation amy strive towards a global unity. Know that we make war so that others don't have to, know that your bretheren are behind you, and that I inside knowledge of how the SGB operates. Do so, and a European victory shall be inevitable!"

Before any of the jaws of my men could open, I left the field. I was visited shortly by a member of my new Saber Squadron, the one who earlier spat at me.

"Sir, my name is Louiselle. You should know that name."

"You are...related to Louis Louiselle? I am already impressed, Soldier."

"Thank you sir...I wanted to let you know, my men of Saber unit were told directly by me, that if they want to win this fight, they'll pay attention to you. I know your name too."

This surprised me, greatly. But the past is past. Any relative of Rainbow is welcome in my Battal-Battlegroup.

As I looked through the docs at my JSF competition, infamous names came up. Names I would have hoped to never fight, simply because I admired them so much.

    Scott Mitchel
    Nick Salvatore

These two alone made me question my resolve...but que sora sora.

The members of Ghost Recon and Rainbow fighting each other...how perverted this war has become.

Soon enough, it was time for battle. It was uneventful, really, as there was little fighting. The enemy JSF tried to lay in wait deefensively as we snuck around them, hitting them from all sides. When they went into Defcon, our units were out of the way when the Kinetic Rod rained down upon us. Our laser destroyed most of their men, and they fled.

    The second, however, was truly...something...

I was given orders to aid three Colonels in attacling Shenandoah Valley. I had no idea how far the European Federation had pushed into American soil, as my focus was on the motherland.

We had just lost Springfield, and I was weary of attacking this valley without the aid of Fort Campbell and Grissom Air Base. But orders are orders. I looked at the bigger picture and realised that we were not necessarily ordered to take the valley, but rather to extend the fighting until we -did- control those key territoires...EFEC sure thinks differently than the Bears.

But the layout made my stomach churn. This was the environemnt in which JSF thrived and breeded. With the addition of Air Support and an extra platoon?

So I told my men that, "Who dares, wins." They chanted this back in chorus as it became our motto. My men would soon sound the trumpets of valor.

I am positive that most of the eyes that read this know very well the layout of this valley. I had reviewd the other attempts by European forces to take this valley, And so I started thinking differently.

Instead of immediately securing the uplinks closest to us, we captured Delta and Yankee first. I sent Saber to Delta, and almost immediately on arrival they were taking fire from Engineers in the forest. They quickly dived into cover as their FAMAS rifles tore the forest, and engineers, to shreds. A squad led by Louiselle started to secure it as the others valiantly defended them from Gunship threats...with almost chilling effectiveness.

Yankee was secured. Then Lima, Sierra, Zulu. Already the JSF was forced into Defcon when they only had two uplinks.

The European COlonels quickly welcomed my strategy, and myself. We bacme friends immediately, and they sent an engineer team to Delta. As soon as they showed up to garrison a small structure, I was informed that Colonel Wolf's legendary Flatbow artillery unit was in place to defned us both. I nearly had a heart attack in that command vehicle-His artillery was the scourge of Russian armor. To the Spetznaz, these men were known as 'The Demon Archers.'

We hit a snag. Our forces at Delta were overwhelemd, and the engineer team was forced to evacuate. But what I saw, as the engineer team was cut down by an air strike, was Louiselle slamming back against a wall of the Uplink. Did he get hit? No, he was hurt, but not from shrapnel-His best friend of many years was in that annihilated unit. Before that day, never had I seen such a determined squadron leader. And the others felt it, too. This unique brotherhood of EFEC made them feel all the ups and downs of the battlefield...it made the battles personal. It made the colonels give it their all.

Lousielle, under fire from tanks, transports, and infantry, ran across the roadway. He jumped through the flak of a tank shell, popping a 40mm grenade launcher shell directly into the barrel by some miracle of God. The tank rew was relaoding-the breach as open. The 40mm detonated the ammunition, and the tank blew sky high. The debris shattered a gunship. As an air strike attempted to annihilate Saber, it missed..instead hitting the armored cluster, crushing them. I wondered which gaurdian angel Louiselle was sleeping with, but he must have done a damn good job. People were scrambling out, he slaughtered them. Four squdrons of enemy soldiers, all cut down. When one fo them had time enough to react with a sidearm shot to his back, it clipped his shoulder, forcing him to spin around, gun still blazing. Confirmed headshot on the thermal SITREP. He beckoned the rest of Saber, and I, handing control of my other units onfield to my fellow Colonels, took direct command of Saber-it had my full attention. no, -they- had my full attention. They moved into the forest, a building, and at no better time-four enemy Force Recon tanks were moving across the road their building was on. They stayed out of site, but I saw through the sitrep that they had recovered some of the engineer's munitions. As a friendly gunship came bearing down, they opened fire. The tanks were annihlited, and once again, it was Louiselle who made sure none survived. I hoped then and there he had not been shattered.

I could not understand how we were winning. A kinetic rod hit Zulu, but we were all far away from it to get dramatically hurt...but the impact always shakes you. We were savagely pushing, winning the first EFEC victory I had ever seen here-On paper, it was an unwinnable battle without Grissom. A colonel used a deep penetration strike and took Bravo-we had won. After all the bloodshed, after all the snags and hiccups, we overcame, just as I had told my Battlegroup.

Louiselle took his men into the far dpeths of enemy territory, beyond allied support. I treid ordering him back, but I had seen this before, and I knew he would win. As Saber garrisoned a fortified building, they shook hell. Flares, energy discharges, projectiles, all came puring out of the building, hitting everything targetted. It was beautiful, from my view as a commander. IFV's, Gunships, even armor was no match for this determined squadron. And when they regrouped for the sole purpose of attacking Saber---

I ordered a Laser strike. I yelled so loudly it hurt my throat for Saber to shield there eyes as a holy, cleansing light, struck the JSF at Alpha. We had won.

    Saber had won.

When the transport chopper scame for the wounded, I saw Louiselle come out, clutching his arm and stomach. He thre himself in front of a sniper's round to protect a fellow soldier. This did not happen in Russia, and I felt a true loss for the first time in my military career. I gave him a direct order that he would not receive a posthumus promotion...ever. He did not disobey.

A week later he was back on his feet, leading the brave mena nd women of SABER into the fight, into the blood, and into the valor.
