I created this thread to post information regarding the dedicated server that we have been able to find out in order to help server admins with setting up their servers.
This is the information that has been "discovered" by the community as the result of one member obtaining a copy of the game prior to release and give us information about it. Unfortunately no one from UBI or RSE has been willing give the community even the most basic of inforation except one screen of the dedcated server status window. This stance has forced the community to gather information in an attempt to gather infomation to prepare to host servers in anticipation of Lockdown's release. Thanks goto noobless1981 and DjTom_I for digging a lot of the following info.
What we know so far:
1) A compatible graphics adapter IS required inorder to launch the dedicated server application. If you are a team that owns their own dedicated box, you will have to make arrangements to have a compatible video card installed prior to hosting. A short list of compatible cards:
â· ATIâ® RADEONâ® 8500/9000/X families
â· NVIDIAâ® GeForce" 3/4/FX/6/7 families (GeForce 4 MX cards are NOT supported)
2) The dedicatded server status/startup screen is used when starting up the server and it looks like a picture of this screen was release by Gieger earlier:
![]()
Then you will use configuration screen to configure the server:
![]()
It looks as if the configuration is limited. Just the basics server config you can see â€" LAN/UBI.com, Game type, # of players and rounds, maps, etc. No option for restriction kits or allowed/disallowed weapons items or attachments. This means unless someone finds it, the grenade launcher and hi-cap mags will not be able to be removed from game play.
This information is stored in an .nds file (if you save it) that looks like this:
![]()
You can see the information is the same as the previous screen just in a text file. The passwords have been X’d out by me, but are shown when you look at the file.
3) Server admins must apparently create separate UBI accounts for each server that they wish to run on the internet. For example if you want to run 2 servers you will need to create UBI.com user accounts like MYSERVER1 and MYSERVER2 in order to host 2 servers. LAN server appear to not require UBI accounts, however there is some confusion regarding needing multiple GUID’s if hosting with a DS and playing on another cpu. If anyone can clarify please let us know.
Things I’m unsure of.
After trying to host 2 servers on the same CPU I am not sure if it will be possible to host multiple servers on the same machine. (I attempted this on a LAN) I say this primarily because of the IP address that is issued for both servers is the same (192.168.254.1) and in the .nds file there is no line to specify IP address and port. So I am assuming they are both running on the same default port. I did some research into the Ghost Recon servers and they utilized the GSLauncher to be able to specify the IP address that the servers will run on. I’m not sure if will require it but I am inquiring around.
Additionally since I have not been able to join a server that I have tried to host yet, I cannot verify the presence or absence of a between round timer. This may be the Auto-Launch setting you can see in the first screen. But like I said I cannot even see the servers I try to host so I cannot join them (LAN or UBI.com) to find out. Anyone who can confirm this please let us know.
That’s it for now. Everyone trying to play with the server set up post your findings here.
Thanks.
